Freesat HD, Freeview HD - Need help deciding...

Currently I have a Humax 9150t but am looking to upgrade to HD, mainly for HD channels but also to upgrade the box to one with HDMI and optical out.

My area won't get Freeview HD until next year, but i would quite like it for the World Cup, so need to decide quick!!

I can't go from having a PVR to not having one, so i quite like the Humax Foxsat PVR, currently £230, plus £30 odd for a dish with me installing it.

Looking at it though i believe i will lose a couple of channels, but possibly have more in the future?

So then i thought i would wait until freeview HD comes here, Humax have just announced their Freeview HD PVR for July, at £350, figure by the time i get it here it would be similarly priced to the Freesat one

I don't really think i NEED to have it for the World Cup, so i suppose that shouldn't really be an issue, just don't really know what to do.

If i can receive freeview with my aerial will i be able to receive freeview HD through it, it looks to be an old, tiny aerial but seems to work ok atm, obviously if i had to buy a new aerial that would bump the cost up loads.

Perhaps i should install a dish, then buy a freesat box (non PVR) and run alongside what i have now, then sell it after the world cup and wait until Freeview HD comes here

Any help appreciated :)

Oh, and no 4HD on Freesat, which seems a good reason to wait also

Well I am pleased with freesat HD and the foxsat recorder (although I also have Freeview std). No complaints, strong signal. excellent reception. EPG is good etc.

How would you say the SD compares on the two?

I have both Freesat and Freeview, Freeview has a far better channel line up.

I wouldn't bother with Freesat to be honest.

HD is so much better than SD. Freesat shows a rock solid picture and has some differenet channels to Freeview. Freeview will probably be the better in the end, particulalrly after the proper switchover but for noe having both is ideal. I can't get Freeview HD for quite some time so it's the best combination right now. Neither is a massive investment. You could have Freeview for £25 or Freesat for less than £100 fitted, although obviously it gets more expensive if you want a recorder, particulalrly HD recording. That for me is ideal though, being able to play back in HD, well worth it.

I have freesat because we won't be getting freeview at all so no choice. There are a lot of freeview channels that you don't get on freesat for some reason... I would wait for the freeview next year.
