Need to know exact time left open eg 1hrs 34mins 33secs, like that can tell which food is OK and which is not, so by saying roughly 2 hours is no good.

Nope.

It will take a lot longer than that for the items to properly defrost - the very outer layer of the foods would only have just started to defrost given the temperature of the freezer even with the door open (and that's open to debate). Also your freezer would still be running to try and maintain the temperature.

You will be fine, trust me, and an EHO.

Nope.

Only foods prone to carry pathogenic bacteria (food poisoning bacteria) like meats etc.

Actually, my friend had campylobacter and Environmental Health told her that she could have had it from bottled water.

I'm talking about from the context of this case - as in stuff that's frozen.

Campylobacter from bottled water is, to say the least, incredibly rare - unless the bottling plant had contamination at the source they abstract water from - or some faecal matter contaminated the bottle tops.

Seems a bizarre postulation to make IMO.

I thought it would be ok until i went in it earlier, the door had been shut again for a few hours but some of the boxes/bags has bits of ice on that are kind of slushy,if that makes sense, like when snow has melted !

That's what happens when you refreeze stuff that's just starting to defrost - it's all turning from ice to water - you cool it down rapidly and it is trying to turn back to ice.

Feel all the high risk foods in the freezer - the stuff containing meat etc - if they're still hard to touch, you're fine.

Yeah but the door has been shut again for a long time now so isn't it too late to tell.

God i'm so dizzy at times,i've no idea how i left it open:oops:

Our freezer door has been accidentally left open for a while on several occasions. We have always just closed it again and never thrown anything out. I know it isnt the right thing to do this but weve never had food poisoning or been ill at all. We are vegetarians so no meat in freezer anyway.

You opened it and never closed it? :-D

Should be fine, needs to go below certain temp before any need to worry so be all good!

It doesn't matter, it would take a couple of hours for the food to get back to the regular temperature anyway. Besides, a couple of hours wouldn't drop the temperature significantly especially with the freezer motor running to try and keep the temperature down.

Stuff in your freezer will be at around -20 degrees - so a little dip of about 4-8 plus from that will not render the food unfit for consumption.

Honestly, I wouldn't mess you about with poor advice on a matter such as this.

Ok thank you.

I wasn't feeling well this morning, got a flu type thing from my sister and her family so it must have happened then when i was trudging around in a daze after taking a few painkillers:w00t:

are you still alive ?

If its been defrosting and you questioning the meat. I would cook it now. Rather then refreezing it. Will be fine as you do that to cook it anyway?

Also depends how far back it is in the freezer. Remember a lot of stuff it stored in a open freezer in supermarkets. 2hrs is nothing.

How high was the setting on the freezer. lol
