I think my freezer may be on its way out, its a chest freezer and its freezing over with ice at the top so much so that the freezer door cannot be shut tight. Looks like its not sealing, anything i can do?

defrost and clean the seal

Defrost it and replace the seals. Also might be worth turning it down a little as well.

hey, you gonna have to defrost it, and check the seals on the door to make sure it shuts correctly. what you describe normally happens when the door doesn't shut correctly, due to worn seals round the door or over filling of contents.

you could turn it off for a bit, then chip away at the ice, but be carefully not to hurt yourself or damage the freezer in the process.

good luck, charlie

How easy is it to replace the seals, and how costly? Its empty at the moment, and defrosted so if a good time to try

A frost build-up inside the freezer usually means that there is a problem in the self-defrost system. You may even have damaged door gaskets. When you open the freezer door, you also let in a blast of warm, often humid air. This moisture usually freezes onto the evaporator coils immediately.
