Personally i wouldnt use Avg as it slows down your computer quite a bit and all in all not that good. I had it for a while but my computer started playing up so took it too my local computer shop and found out it had quite a few viruses. After that have bought Kaspersky and have never had any probs and on First Full scan found alot of viruses AVG hadnt even Noticed.

Agreed.

Go with the Microsoft Security Essentials package. Its free and downloadable as long as you have a valid copy of windows. Its really very very good.

If you dont, go with AVAST!

arrgghhh dont do this to me, aint avast the one that pops up every bleeding site you go on, cant be doing with that, i never understand why they do that, if i new whether it was secure or unsecure i would or wouldnt visit the site, avast tells you it maybe, what use is that

Nope its spyware and Malware aswell.. Your windows firewall will be more then enough for home use.

its a very neat little package, very unobtrusive. I couldnt reccomend it highly enough.

For like 10 minutes, there's not a man sat there waiting for you to uninstall it so he can steal your life.

are you sure? lol

I can't tell if this is a joke.

it wasnt a joke , no, well the are you sure bit was, on the ms site it goes on about what you have to do if it wont do this and it wont do that, which says to me it may not be and easy thing to set up, so maybe not a 10 minute jobbie

yea just get rid of macafee first. its a horrible evil piece of software.

Just follow the instructions and all will be well :)

sorry for babbling, its because i dont real;ly unserstand the working of them all, you get used to how something works, like avg used to scan once a day, use to use spybot once a day then malware once a week so got used to doing that, now got to get used to something else, so does ms thing scan once a day
banned#19
windows firewall on, McAfee history and MS installed and set to scan each day and now running a full scan, anything else i need? was thinking of downloading malwarebytes to run once a week?

also what will need to remove off daughters lappy to run this, she haswindows firewall, AVG free version, spybot and malware and running vista, im assuming just remove avg and spybot yeah
#20
Are you really that paranoid about getting a virus that you need to scan once a day?
banned#21
flippin eck the laptop is quite fast since removing McAfee, thought it was a bit slow when i got it, but wasnt over concerned but it was obviously McAfee making it slow

not sure if its paranoid, just something that has always been done, does it matter :?
#23
you shouldn't need anything else apart from MS security essentials :)

Well not, but scanning your system will slow down your pc when its doing it.

There is no real need to scan once a day, once a month is more than enough.

well it has scanned today, didnt take long and to be honest i never noticed it had slowed down, although i dont do much on it so maybe thats why, daughter has never mentioned hers being slow and hers scans everyday

if its got somehing on it, surely its better to pick it up immediately than having it on your computer for a month, no?
