fundraising ideas

My little sister is off to South Africa in June/July, to work with kids in an orphanage, where all the children have lost parents through aids.

She needs to raise close to £2k to go on this trip, this is to pay for her flights, vaccinations, and for supplies for taking over, plus anything else she can raise.

does anybody have any ideas as to things we can do to raise the money? We are going to be collecting money at the Wirral Egg run on Sunday (about 10,000 bikers, so we should raise somthing there, lol), and shes organising loads of events at her church (who she is doing the trip with, and a charity, which the name of escapes my mind right now)

get your friends-family to donate stuff they dont want and sell on ebay - discounted seller rates for charity fundraising -you have a couple of months - put a bit of time and effort into it you could raise a fair few pound
good luck!!

Local business sponsorship is good if she can communicate well. Independant retailers and businesses rather than multi nationals.

Get hold of the local papers, there's usually at least 2 , one free and one that is on sale, and ask them nicely to run a small feature on her, what she's doing and how she needs sponsorship. They are usually pretty good at doing things like this but you may need to "sell them the idea" ! (local gal made good, local gal and orphans etc)

How long has she been left school ? Can she go back to her primary or high school and see if the heads willing to run some sort of "day" (non uniform uually goes down well @ 50p a go)

Some car boot sales as soon as the weather warms up. Ask locally for stuff to sell and do some posters up and sell, sell, sell !!

Local pubs ? All sorts of stuff can be done in pubs !!

she left school 4 years ago this year, but works at the school twice a week doing drama as part of her youth work job. I'll get her to sugest it to the school

Could she not put a play or musical on then with the help of some drama students, advertise it and charge a small entrance fee ? School could provide the hall etc and maybe they could even sell refreshments.

do you have a local newspaper? an article about what she is doing and who for would be useful.
the paper would be able to include a contact detail for your sister and donations could be raised that way.
i've seen similar articles in our local paper.
