Went to a funeral of a family friend yesterday. She was just under 102 years old. We had know her since she was in her 70s. We used to visit her several times a week and make sure everything was ok. She no contact with any of her family until recently when a neice turned up on the scenes.
We knew that the lady wanted to be buried in a plot that her church had kept for her. This was in her will. Imagine our amazement when the funeral car turned into the crematorium! I told the minister the mistake and what the wishes of the lady were. I know that there was no going back at this stage in the events, but I was fuming, and had a sick feeling in my stomach. I had a restless night thinking about her being burned, when she had always planned to be buried.
This is what happens when so-called families take over and don't consult those closest to the deceased. But then, we know that the lady had saved quite a lot of money over six decades for the end of her life and burial expenses. It makes one think!

how sad :-( did she put it in her will? that's what i think i'd do with a clause saying that if my wishes aren't fulfilled they won't get anything!

Typical story of a family crawling out of the woodwork when someone is near death or has just died. They don't respect last wishes and probably just want the funeral over and done with quickly.... then onto the will!

Hopefully the deceased will have the last laugh and has left the money to someone else or a dog's home.

It was in her will. We saw it years ago. There was no mention of a will though. We know that she did not leave any particular person anything, and that it would go to some society.

but surely they can let their solicitors know that this is in the will so they can inform the involved parties....
