i personally like the xbox, you can buy a remote to go with it and with that you can play dvd's on it. However the games can be quite pricey

the PS2 as you can easily add an ide HD to it & run Backups of your originals from it saving wear & tear to machine & cd/dvd... :D

of course, its not legal to store images of your blockbuster rentals on it to play... :D

BlockBuster have a huge selection for rental...

all Ps2's play music cd's or film DvD's

to add a HD is very simple... all Sony Network adaptors have the ide port attached... I got mine supplied with a free online game from "game"

the only restriction is that the ide connector & power connector is of fixed distance apart... I have found in practice, nearly all drives match this distance apart... I used my spare nikimi drive... maxtor is good... in fact, all my spare pc drives matched!

An original HDLoader cd or HDAdvance is required to make full use of the gigs of drive space...

v2.0 of HDAdvance runs drives bigger than 127gb... older versions only utilize upto 127gb... ps2ownz.com/forums/ has plenty of info... :D

To be honest jcsymons, i think all you will get from this thread is two camps of people. One singing the praises of the XBox, and the other singing the praises of the PS2, you'll also get the social misfits ;) saying the Gamecube is best (puts on flack jacket).

If i was you i'd look at the games that are available for each, work out which you prefer and go with that console. Just my 2p worth :D

THE XBOX GIVE S THE BEST GRAPHICS AND SOUNDS BUT THE PLAYSTATION IS BY FAR THE BEST.....BETTER GAMES, BETTER PRICE AND OFF COURSE BETTER COMPANY

I only have a GC, and its fine for me, but if you are a serios gamer i guess the ps2 is the one to go for, and now its smaller too.

Apparently the new slimline ps2 is like golddust to get hold of, my friend went everywhere to get one for her son's xmas pressie and nowhere had them, the shops told her china were hanging on to them until a week before christmas but she managed to get one from amazon

that raises an interesting point, ive heard that the slimline ps2 now comes with a network card built in, unlike the old ps2, but i just had a thought, now that its a lot slimmer, is it still possible to fit a harddrive in it i wonder?

another point is, i think both the ps2 and the xbox can be linked up to your network and used as media playing devices, so it can stream mp3s and xvid, divx movies, photos etc from your pc, and show them on the tv, both quite useful features, i think the xbox needs to be modified in order to do this, i guess the ps2 does as well. ive also heard once the xbox is modified and you install the media center software you can put in cds with divx or xvid movies on and play them in your tv :) u can probably do that on the ps2 too. i dont hav either console, but just read a lot about them

No, its not possible to fit an internal Hard-Drive...

But the good news is.... An external USB Hard-Drive would be available! I have recently heard its in its final stages of development... :D

I have also heard that the slimline does have a problem with its laser control chip though... I think that problem is being addressed...
