Gaming accessories advice - keyboard, headphones

I need some help! My 13 year old son who is truly in to his pc and gaming especially has asked for a new keyboard and set of headphones forChristmas. Rather than ask for something which is a fair price and readily available he has asked for the following - A4 Tech X7 - G800 Keyboard (only seems to be available outside of the UK at a premium) and a set of Razer Pirannah headphones - again, quite pricey. He seems incapable of asking for anything within his budget and just pushes me to spend hours on my pc searching sites for the best deal (which is what I would have done anyway), but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. Does anyone have any suggestions of a reasonable alternative to these or advice of where I could get these at a decent price. Thanks in advance, Liz

Any of these I'm sure would be suitable for 13yo PC gamer.

The headphones really aren't that pricey for 35quid, you could be spending alot more if he wanted 5.1 headphones.

Oh sorry for the delay in getting back - had to nip off to sort out dish washer and get breakfast. I am hoping to use the money he gets from his Grandma's and Aunty to fund them. In total, that will be £60. I could put the other money to it and get the other items but I'm not sure if his request are a little extravagant! He is only 13 afterall!! I shall check the sites you mentioned - just find the postage on Overclockers a little pricey though. Thx, Liz

Just back from checking site. They're very sneaky at Overclockers showing the non inclusive price in green bold - you think you've a deal but then there's the VAT and delivery which bumps up the price!

consider yourself lucky. my son has just asked for a razer lycosa keyboard (£60) and a Razer Lychesis mouse (£40) so perhaps your 13 yr olds tastes aren't so expensive after all :)

Yeh, but this is not in isolation - he had just had a birthday and replaced the motherboard, processor and increased the RAM. Is getting a £110 graphics card for Christmas from us and already has a decent gaming mouse - got it from Amazon in July for £14.98 but now selling on there for £39.99 - wouldn't have paid that for it so lucky we got a deal. I am not knocking what you are saying wolf359 but it just seems that everything that he asks for is never straightforward. It always has to be something that I am having to try and 'get in budget', not something that is comfortably in with money left over! Kids of today just want more and more and maybe we're just mugs to let them have it. I am now looking more towards the Logitech G11 keyboard though - Ebuyer seem the cheapest, same with the headphones, they seem cheapest, but if anyone can tell me different I'd love to know. Thx

Speaking as someone who once requested such things at that age (back in the days of Amigas and 486's), he'll probably prefer nothing at all (or maybe some money towards one so he can save up and get it himself) to one he didn't ask for. Imho best thing to do is explain he can't have everything and which would he prefer, or perhaps if he'd like to look into a cheaper alternative. Otherwise the requests will never end.

PC gaming is expensive especially since it always seems to need a new Gfx card for the the next benchmark game, this will continue.

Be careful on what you buy. I have a 2nd hand mint Barracuda headset... that just lasts 6 months before getting the hiccups..
The mouse from Razer are ok though. Got a Lachesis 2nd hand for £25. The bottom of it is badly scratched and will continue to. Read up on some reviews, but my opinion is not to spend a lot since the tech market moves at such a rapid rate.

Edit: i see your budget is £60. That's actually quite sensible. The stuff are kinda the same price everywhere in my eyes, except some which are too expensive like play.com etc.

i'm with the rest. get what they want or nothing at all. they'll only just put it in a corner and not use it otherwise.

kids have expensive tastes. especially when it comes to hardware.
asking for a £300 ps3 is nothing to them. especially as you can be sure that one of their friends "can have anything they ask for"
