Too early/late to waffle on but go with a xbox 360
#2
360 more games and the controller is miles better than the PS ones
#3
Xbox 360. The PS3 is a dud.
#4
Do a search on here for ps3*
#5
360 is the best gaming console
#6
360, PS3, Wii - in that order
#7
360 defo.

The price is better
The controller is better
There are more games
You can download classics and demos
XBOX Live is the best online gaming network (although you do have to pay but it is worth it)
nuff said!

If you want a true rival to the PS3 then the Elite is the way to go.

How many threads will be started about the competition between consoles :giggle:
I'd say go for a 360, but i'm biased as i have one.
#9
I always look at the games back catalogue first:

Based on this:

360 - Loads of quality titles to choose from
PS3 - Maybe a decent option in a year or so
Wiii - as an antisocial ,anti-cutesy, non-family gamer is not an option for me.
#10
Get a PS3 (yeah, I said it). The Xbox maybe be better now, but you all wait!
#11
the wii needs a decent mindless shooter (i.e. Halo). It could also do with better graphics but since i don't have a HD TV it's less of an issue for me.

360 is the best currently
#12
PS3. It will last the longest (as the PS1 and PS2 proved, Sony keep their consoles out for a long time before introducing another one and they have already outlined a plan in which the next Playstation won't be out for 10 years), it has the best games still to come out, whereas the Xbox has already had most of it's top games released, and the online service on the PS3 is set to eclipse Microsoft's with Home coming out(Microsoft are already developing a service that is similar to Home because they believe that Home will be much better than their current offering).
#13
Atari 2600 bundled with E.T won't have issues with supply there...

Wow what an original thread!

Just read this I guess:

Or maybe:

I have all 3 the PS3 is really picking up now. Hoepfully the ****** ports will stop and then the PS3 will be king.

But till then, the 360 rules. The back catalogue (if you can call it that?) is fantastic.

Lol, I've just had enough of people always saying on these type of threads the PS3 doesn't have any good games, yet they don't look at the situation in a few months or even consider the good exclusives that are out nowand the PS3 has a worse online service, yet they don't bother to consider Home. You can't just say one is better than the other without looking to the future, and also I used hardly any rumours.

Here's a more subjective view: link

Ah but did I say the PS3 had no good games, no you assumed I didnt like the PS3 which is what fanboys do.

And the problem with "looking to the future" is then you believe everything companies tell you, whats to stop MS saying they have suddenly got rights to top games(most likely wont happen but still) what im saying is you cant predict the future so I hate it when people say my console is better because its bringing out loads of exclusives in the future, many of which get ported anyway

That was why I posted my xbox comment, as its saying something, and as its release date hasnt arrived whats to say it isnt true(it isnt but hey)

A lot can happen in a year.
#19
Ryouga has a point,

A year ago people said the PS3 will be amazing because it would have Devil May Cry and Assassins Creed as Exclusives.
#20
Cheers for the imput so far. Always been a PS in the family and never had any problems and as the online stuff is not important will probably opt for the PS3:whistling: :whistling:
#21
If you dont plan on any online stuff, or using it for multimedia get the 360, no point paying more for extra features you wont use

I understand your point and it is valid, but what I was saying was that it is annoying when people just post xbox 360 is better, or just PS3 online sucks and PS3 games suck, when they clearly don't consider that the PS3 has been out a year less than the 360.

In the 360's first year there weren't that many big games, Bioshock, Halo 3, Mass Effect etc have all come out in the second year. If you only look at the present, then obviously the 360 is better, but if consider where the PS3 will be over the next year, which is it's second year, you can't deny that it will be much better than it currently is, with most of the Playstation's big games out in 2008 plus the much anticipated Home should vastly improve the PS3s online offering.

Arsenal Fan - I'd be interested to know what incentive there is for Sony to provide Home for free? I appreciate that they want to make money from paid downloads but what incentive is there to make sure that the "gaming" servers are adequate? As a free service are there any obligations on Sony to provide a minimum level of service? If I was a business I'd be asking "whats in it for me? if we don't make any money from online gaming lets concentrate on paid downloads". Not having a go or anything just interested to know what the answers are

I hope Home really does take off and that Sony can meet any capacity issues (but this is an unknown) as this will put pressure on MS to make live free.

Well having a free online service is one of Sony's main selling points, it's one thing they have over the 360. A lot of people don't want to pay extra each year just to go online, I even know people like this. So by having Home for free, and it could be better than Live, would become a big selling point for PS3s. If they began charging then it would deter a lot of people and if they can't cope with the amount of people that join Home, then similarly Home could be a failure.

TBH the costs for running the online services and hosted game servers have to be got from somewhere, they will be charging for the inidividual services thus working out more costly than a subscription.

More games out and many good ones now platinum.
Online service is great. (but it costs)
OS is constantly updated and improved (recently with divx support) but some improvements are still needed. (also supports IM)
The centralised gamertag and achievements/points are a revelation and highly addictive.
Is modular so you can buy add-ons as you can afford them so can be updated to HD-DVD easily via Usb when you need it, but some add-ons are costly.
If you don't have an HDTV you can buy the VGA adapter and use a PC monitor.

PS3

Some good games.
Online is free but very patchy (you get what you pay for).
Sony aren't the best when it comes to OS software but it's getting better.
You get a lot out of the box (blu-ray, wireless) but you have to pay a lot.
You need an HDTV for the best results.

Both are good consoles but the 360 is better at the moment. The good thing about both consoles being around is we get better deals.
#27
if the new falcon chip 360 gets rid of the overheating issues then i would recommend the 360 easily over the ps3... much better online service, better game ports, movie downloads soon to come and i prefer the 360 control pad

the wii is in a league of its own so u cant compare it to the 360/ps3
#28
If you want innovation, to play top games such as Zelda, Mario Galaxy, for social gaming/multiplayer fun and classic games from the last 20 years from Nes, Snes, Mega Drive Neo geo, N64, Turbografx, get Wii

For Online gaming and a good range of titles now get 360

PS3 has some good titles eg Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and will get stronger as time goes by.

clear as mud really

The fact is people want different types of game, some favour graphics over gameplay, others prefer online. Others just want to have fun.

Nintendo are clearly making gaming more massmarket with the wii+ds which is why games such as Brain training after 3 years still lead the charts. They also do hard core games such as Zelda and a lot of their games are a lot deeper than people think. The other 2 platforms are more similar to each other with the same games being released, not much to choose other than the fact the 360 is cheaper, has more games and better online gaming at the moment.

edit, have just seen that you say you have always had a Playstation in the house so Id guess you would prefer a PS3.

Ok, so, i'd like to join this thread by asking a question.

I solely wanna play madden online. I don't have an HD tv.

Which console then for me?

360 easily

runs at 60 frames per seconds on 360 whereas it runs at 30fps on ps3 (jerkier/slower)

plus the online community is much bigger on 360

360, no contest

As with most EA games on the PS3, it suffers from slowdown/framerate issues.

I've never seen anyone put up that much of a fight for the sake of people's opinions on consoles. You seem to know your stuff though so well done, I've learned loads of stuff about the ps3 that i didn't know and will probably e3nd up buying one when their abit cheaper.
At the moment though, I think I'll just stick to my xbox :p

Lol, normally there's a lot more people saying the 360 is better, but some don't even give reasons as to why, so I just explain to people who aren't sure which console to get the potential of the PS3 because at the moment obviously the 360 is the better console (although I believe that is inevitable as it has been out over a year longer :whistling: ). But the 360 is still a great console and whichever one someone picks out of 360 or PS3 I'm sure they will be delighted.

Thats some pretty interesting stats there. Made my decision even harder now:? :?
#38
But keep in mind that after the first year of release the 360 had only sold around 6 million, and the PS3 was only released here in March, whereas the 360 was released Nov 2005. The sales patterns between the two consoles are very similar, they both have sold at the same rates.

Here is a graph of the three consoles sales aligned (i.e comparing how many sales there have been in months since launch) although it is around 2 months old I think. It does show that the PS3 has kept up quite well with how the 360 was selling in it's first year and the price drop of the PS3, which isn't shown on the graph should mean that the PS3 kept up with the 360's acceleration.
#39
Erm...why should these stats decide which console to buy?

You should be looking at Games, features etc...
#40
Thats right, at the end of the day it should all be about the quality of games, gameplay, not multimedia capability imo. Everyone thought it would be a 2 horse race between MS and Sony after the previous gen but Nintendo have steamrollered both certainly in hand held and to a lesser extent console. Wii came out a year after the 360 and has already overtaken it which shows that gamers were ready for for new ideas which only Nintendo seem willing/able to deliver. They could easily bring out an "uber console" a la PS3 but instead chose innovation and its paid off. Another more detailed sales stat for games and consoles:

http://www.vgchartz.com/

Re Wii not being able to play DVD's, it will if you get it chipped. Ive always gone for Ninty as I have to play Zelda, Mario Kart, Metroid etc - I will look at getting a ps3 depending on the quality and variety of games that come out in the next 12 months as well as for GTA IV. Also for racing games The Wii is lacking until MarioKart Wii comes along and maybe F Zero and others.
