Finally. It's one of the main reasons i've used my XBOX more recently as i'm too lazy to change the HDD or keep swapping installations. Good news.

Cool. Now they just need to let me put my own custom themes on already

Edit. Yay custom wallpapers :)

I have a spare 1TB hard drive so I can finally download games that I had to delete for more space :D (hello dying light and sniper elite 3)

Awesome news! http://a.fod4.com/images/GifGuide/dancing/tumblr_lhzn7g4p9n1qcnhhzo1_500.gif

Thanks for the heads up, no more faffing swapping / deleting games :)

External hard drive support!
At last they've finally seen sense :)

Im guessing they did not allow hdd support from the start because they was scared that it would aid piracy?
#7
does that mean I can play movies via hdd?
#8
Dam I sold my 1TB hybrid drive a few weeks ago for a 2TB hard drive. Good news since I only have about 100gb left.

This looks like it's going to be a pretty good update, lots of nice improvements.

You could always swap the internal drive, it was never really clear why external wasn't an option
#11
they still need psn name change! amazed they are still miles behind with this

External HDD support is great. However it also highlights the distinct lack of USB ports the PS4 has, especially if you have VR. Ok you get an extra one at the back on the pro. But could still lead to some juggling if you have VR, wireless headphones, external HDD and want to charge dualshock and/or move controllers!

4tb WD blacks here i come.

It will be interesting to see what performance will be like. Don't pretty much most Xbox games run quicker from an external drive? Wonder if PS4 will be the same

Yay basic functionality.... it's a revelation.

Performance will be limited to throughput of the usb and read speed of the disk so this is a bit of a can't compare scenario.

Surprised this wasn't there from the beginning..... it's usb disc support.

Are the PS4 or Pro USB 3 ?

Digital Foundary were able to compare with the Xbox... I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same with the PS4 now

Of course they are! Why would they specify USB3 drives if they're not compatible ;)

Possible PS4 Pro boost mode this patch or in an upcoming patch

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=229635785&postcount=314

Will boost frame rate of games even if they do not have a PS4 Pro optimisation patch.

You have been able to do this for some time, as long as the external FAT32.
#22
When is the patch rolling out?

People who are part of the beta start getting it today. No date yet when it goes out to the masses

Let me clarify. The ps4 has a 5400rpm 500gb disk in it. There are a million disks out there on external drives from ssdhd hybrids to 10krpm etc. Unless you plan on buying an external disk with the exact same specs as in the ps4 it's pointless to compare and declare either internal or external are fadter/slower as it completely depends ...

I hear you, but let me clarify... If I can buy an external drive plug it in, install a game on it and that game loads/performs faster/better on that drive compared to the internal drive, then I'll be a happy bunny. As I can't be bothered to install a new drive internally

I agree. Just perplexed why this wasn't there from the outset. Load times won't be significantly improved though, not unless it's an ssdhd or an ssd and even then it'll be a few seconds. I'm just happier that as you say I don't need to use a screwdriver to expand my storage

If anyone has a beta code they are not using, would you please give it me? I have a PS4 Pro and I want to use the new boost mode for unpatched games. Thanks
#28
I would also love if someone could give me a Beta code for the new patch please. Have a PS4 Pro and would like to try that boost mode.

Sounds like you need controller docks and who needs wireless headphones when you have VR? :) Problem solved.

Do you mean the ability to change psn username?
I know a lot of people, with excruciatingly regrettable usernames (myself included) that would like that option :)

Anyone tried 3D Blu Rays via the VR headset yet?

I think it was due to piracy, that is how people were able to hack the ps3, using software from an external drive.
using the internal drive is a different ball game, pretty sure Sony just did not want any way for pirates to crack the ps4,
and it worked to be honest,

I wouldn't expect so.

this is brilliant news. Having a full HDD was main reason I picked up an Xbox one before xmas. Im delighted I got the xbox but having this on the ps4 too now is a massive bonus. shame I deleted loads of the hard drive last week!!

Anyone recommend a decent fast USB type 3.0 enclosure for a 3.5" WD Black 3tb or above ?
