I once lost a "Buzz!" tournament at my brother's house.

The forfeit was to drink a shot of whiskey that had been swilled around someone else's mouth.

I've not played Buzz since.

Yes back in the day i entered a few Street fighter tourneys.

My friend and i got to the finals in two and split the pot both times. One of the prizes was a custom built supergun cabinet

Also I entered a super turbo tournament in the trocadero and did really well but lost to the guy who eventually won the tournament. The game was quite new at the time and I wasn't fully up to speed on that version. Later I know I could have destroyed him.

A couple of online tourneys iv entered and also some grudge matches.

Also the arcade scene back then was very competitive on street fighter. My finest hour was going unbeaten for hours in one of London toughest arcades

Not sure which one it was, but it was on PS2 (I think it was PES 4 or 5).

I use to 'skip' school to play Street Fighter, was so good I was on all day, beat the local 'world warrior' eventually. That was my education.

Yeah, the competition can be very fierce. Of course netcode on sf4 doesn't help.

I had to retire from Sf as it was taking up too much time especially staying competitive on sf4

Donkey Kong Country at a Blockbuster Video store 20+ years ago. The objective was to get the most points, lives, and as far through the game as possible within a certain time

I along with many others got disqualified as we knew where the warp secrets were to skip loads of levels. They called it "cheating" for some reason...

It was good fun though.

80+ wins in a row sounds a like a great achievement.

These days I just play COD, I would say I'm just above average on that, I wouldn't dare enter any e-sports as the scene is highly competitive.

Not really much available on the PS4 at the moment. It also depends on which types of games you would want to play.

Konami code?

Yes indeed. Was used to enable cheats on SF2T

Still works on some websites!

I did that but just got unlucky and dropped through the floor :(

The whiskey was revolting.

The guy who swilled it had just eaten some crisps so it looked like it had come from a tank of seamonkeys..

That's what I thought to be honest.

Maybe I will just use my Xbox 360 until ps5 then or wait for it to become cheaper

It was OK I guess, the first few matches were easy, I wasn't threashing people, but winning 2-0, 3-0 etc. Once I got to the last 16, the other guy scored a couple and kept possession of the ball for the whole second half 10 minute match, cheater). He got knocked out in the next round.

That will change over time. All you have to do is look at PS3 launch games (and those that were released less than 12 months after launch) compared with later in it's cycle. Launch games just looked like jazzed up PS2 games but the gap widened after about a year and continued to do so until now.

I played in a few tournaments as part of a team on COD2 years ago online on the PC. We were rubbish really but it was extremely good fun to be had over Teamspeak. We had a guy who was ace with a sniper rifle, but lame with anything else. A few who were good with normal rifles and me who just ran around like a nutter with the small machine guns and calling out enemy positions as I saw them for the rest of the team to pick up.

Haven't done it in years mind. Even if I did, I doubt I'd win any money or a prize, too many youngsters who beat me in my slippers.

If you ask Sean then the answer would be a definitive no. :D

It depends of course, on the exclusives that you want to play and if you aren't interested in any then perhaps wait to see what becomes of the steam box.

Or just wait.

I remember they had this guy on Gamesmaster (Danny? I think), apparently he was unbeatable at all games on the Mega Drive.

Saw a Street Fighter 2 Turbo shopping centre promo tournament for the SNES version and decided to enter after watching people play. I beat the guy a guy who was winning against all challengers to go on a win streak myself. The events guy decided to have a finals match that involved me playing the guy who I'd already beaten to decide the winner. They cranked up the game speed to max at this point and the guy just went and spammed Bison's psycho crusher from left to right and back again.

I play SF4 at a decent level now and to this day feel ashamed that I had no answer to that player :(

that's unfair, you beat him and then had to beat him again, yet he only had to beat you once to win! should of been best out of three.

The events guy was just making up rules as he went along. Can't remember what I won but it was something like a Nintendo goodie bag (no games or consoles). Pretty sure the winner didn't get a copy of the game either or else I would have probably had a fit in public about having beat the guy earlier.
