Gareth is currently in talks with Man City regarding a transfer according to Sky Sports and could be their first big move of the season. I predict a lot of hatred coming from Liverpool fans calling him a hypocrite etc, stating that he said he would only leave Villa for a club in the Champions League.

It's one thing to leave for Liverpool - they're in Europe, a big team.

But Man City?

Probably all the extra ££££££££££'s that may be coming his way.

Not sure what to make of this.

I'm presuming big money is involved because i know if i had a choice or eastlands or anfield it wouldn't be the first one !!

as a Liverpool fan I am so pleased to hear this! This means Alonso must be staying :)
Barry would have been a lot of money for an average english player, whereas now we can keep hold of the best passer of the ball in the premiership and who keeps the team ticking over

Stephen Ireland signed a new deal last week and said at the time that he was excited to see what the starting line up for man city will be next season, im betting there is gona be a LOT of movement in and out of manchester this summer

Absolutely disgusted Villa fan here (if he goes to Man City)

Bleating on last season about his need for ECL action, which I felt fair enough it's his last chance and he did give us another full hearted season after.

But if he goes to Man City I will despise him, there is no way they will achieve ECL football for at least the next 2 seasons by which time he will be past his best anyway. Purely money orientated.

I would have far more respect if he said he was going to cash in at Man City.

Money grabbing ****wit. My temperatures rising now.

Don't think so, its looking like January next year at the earliest by the looks of things.

See here for details

I just hope he doesnt go to Liverpool, he's just not worth it !

Another player who is over priced just because he is english. Stephen Ireland will be pulling the strings in the City team next season and Barry will end up just being a passenger in the side
#16
I don't agree with either of you tbh.

If you watch Barry week inweek out he really is a great player and is probably the main reason we nearly broke into the top 4.

He will be man of the match more often than not wherever he goes.

Not quite in the Lampard or Gerrard level but not far behind, he doesn't do anything spectacular but is reliable and dependable.

But for that amount of money you'd want someone who is more than just reliable and dependable.
#18
Barry will be a an excellent partner for Stephen Ireland in the City midfield if he signs. He wil do all the graft in the defensive holding role and this will free up Ireland to get forward more. Will be a good partnership in the middle of the park imo.

he's not even near the Lampard or Gerrard level!

:w00t::w00t: thanks for that, I needed a good laugh!

Hargreaves has always suffered from injury problems, thats why Bayern were rubbing their hands when Utd came in with a stupid bid for him. He had played a poor percentage of games when at Bayern, however his performances were good when he did play

If he is fit for the start of next season he seriously needs to consider moving on now because he is at the stage of his career where he needs to play week in week out to maintain his fitness. At utd he will play one game in every three and pick up niggly injuries, and will never get any momentum behind him to get back to his best form

Maybe he would be a good replacement for Barry at Villa?

As I said he's not far behind.

He is nowhere near the same pay deal or transfer fee either.

Playing for England who shines more out of the 3 lately?
#22
good first signing for city, expecting a few more like this

barry is a good player and will only improve next season same as the city

But England won't have had to spend millions on him its club level that you need to be looking at.

He should stay at Villa as he is a big name there, that'd all change at city once they get spending as this is first full summer with all that money.
#24
I think he should stay at Villa too but then I am a Villa fan.

It's hard to begrudge him one last payday if they are going to throw stupid money at him in wages when he's been with us so long. Just glad it's happening at the start of the window and not at the end, we'll have plenty of time to replace him.

hes been at villa for 10 years......still nothing

i think he deserves respect for that and now its timn to move on....city will be in for champions league next season which is more than what villa will be doing

city will be spending big for sure.....any player would be hard pushed to turn down what is gonna be happenin at eastlands

dont forgetr he is out of contract next year also
#26
Personally I think MC will struggle to sign real superstars until they are champions league material which is not until next summer at the earliest now.

I believe Kaka was a real kick in the teeth for them last year.

not hard to work out they gonna be up there next season............regardless

If was a toss up between getting Barry at Liverpool and sacrificing Alonso, I know I'd want Alonso over Barry any day.

Any chance you can give me next weeks lotto numbers as well?

Villa have been improving under O'neill and weren't far off chapions league for a while last season. While City with all there money flirted with relegation all season.

If he's have gone to Liverpool I'd have said good luck as he'd have a chance of winning something but he isn't doing it to play in CL or win things its all about £££.

liverpool dont need him.

lets hope he does move away from villa to man city.

also hull were in champions leaghue spot for a while.....

+1. And good players wanted to go to Chelsea when they had the money, nobody wants to go to city not even their most expensive signing wanted to go there, it was his only choice to get out of Madrid

He is far behind - Gerrard is one of the best players the Premier League has ever seen and has been cited as the best player in the world on a number of occasions e.g by Zidane recently

And I wouldnt say Barry "shines" for England, Gerrard n Lampard both play ok for their country, the problem is everybody wants them to replicate their club form, the problem is that no recent England manager has seemed to relise that the best team doesnt necessarily have all the best players in it and as a result tatics have been compromised which has lead to these players not being as effectual
