at the mo we are with utility warehouse paying £100 electric a month and £66 gas a month we have just phoned them and they said we are not paying enough elec as we now owe them £400 odd pound so they said our elec payments need to be upped to £142 a month!!

we have a 4 bed house and im home most of the day and in the even there are probably 3 tvs on as our teenagers have them in their rooms but it still sounds alot to me

we are with utility warehouse for everything gas, elec, broadband, line rental, free calls so we are paying them 250 a month for the lot but now with the elec going up we will be paying £292 a month!

does anyone else pay around these prices?

are your bills being estimated? you need to check your meter reading, i pay £31 a month gas and £28 electric and over the year it usually covers it
#2
no just gave them our meter readings and they werent far off
#3
Wow thats an awful amount of money for your electric, we were paying £52 amonth electric and £28 gas and were in credit so we had money back and they reduced the electric to £38 amonth but left gas the same. We live in a 3 bed semi where computers on alot, lights left on etc, If I was you i would look into changing your supplyer,

could you pop in you meter reads on here, and the tariff prices
#5
WOW! That does sound a lot,

We are with Scottish power and pay £87 for electric and £39 for gas.

We are in a 4 bedroomed semi, 3 Tvs and 2 xboxes on most of the time, laptop and computer, Im home most of the day bar a couple of hours at lunchtime. Im a beggar for using the tumble dryer, even on a dry day  and we have full gas central heating.

Are you on economy 7? We were but changed a couple of months ago to a standard tarriff as economyy 7 is way more expensive unless you have electric storage heaters.

the only gas we have in the house is the boiler for the water and rads so even £66 gas seems alot to me for the gas

they said if i change supplier i would need to pay them the £400 odd quid upfront and i cant afford to do that :(

£142 a month! thats ridiculous.

We pay £30 electric and £40 gas per month which reflects our usage. 2 adults and I'm at home most days with pc / tv etc on (4 bed detached).

You need to post your tariffs so we can see if you are paying over the odds.

its possible, we thought that with ours and OH took a daily reading for two weeks at the same time of the day, see if there are any variables in the daily usage, if any discrepencies over the fortnight, that may indicate a fault with the meter.
Also, you could speak to neighbours in equivalent houses and ask how much they are paying.

I use british Gas for both:-

Payment Method: Monthly Direct Debit Gas
Tier 1 Tier 2 (Tier 1 is the first 698kwh per qtr)
6.483 / 3.269
(inc.VAT)

Click Energy 6 Electricity
Payment Method: Monthly Direct Debit
Tier 1 Tier 2 (Tier 1 is the first 125kwh per qtr )
19.164 / 8.783
(inc.VAT)

not at all, just say you are concerned about your bills, and just out of interest wondered what they are paying.

9 months gas for me was about 9000 kwh so it isnt far off you, and i pay more in tariff prices than you, so somethings not right, you need to start checking old bills, tariff prices, etc etc for those 9 months i paid £345

lol, I am proud to say I haven't used the phrase 'were you born in a field?' yet, although as the years go by, it's getting hard not to...................:p

I am officially my mother!

"Born in a barn", "are we heating the street?", "blackpool illuminations", "let me just go and water the money tree at the bottom of the garden"........OMG !!!!!!!!

our gas is only for the heating and a gas hob. How do you keep your leccy so low? OH wants you to pass on some tips! :-D
#33
MIL was paying about £24 a month to her gas, they came to read her meter, sent her a letter telling her that she hadn't been paying enough so that she now was in £1000 arrears and that her payments would be going up to £142 a month.

They said that they only have to read the meter once a year and that it wasn't their fault.
