aha the politacal stance, never thought of that. In all fairness aside from having no daylight to the front of the house everyone was always worried if they fell. add to that the damage being done by the roots and i'd say best they came down.

It's not like they are proper tree's anyway, there only small, more like bushes tbh, get em out the ground and plant couple of nice big, Oak tree's in their place, that'll sort out ya problems :p

Have you wondered if these trees are being replaced by a mobile phone mast?

Know exactly how you feel Michelle, I had these trees in my garden at one point:? Blocked all the sunlight out and had to plant shady loving plants too. Now I can sunbath all day in my lovely sunny garden, when we do ever get any sun:? Happy days, glad it`s all getting sorted for you:-D

I'm really pleased for you hon, will improve your quality of life getting some sun in your garden...

and cutting those trees down doesn't have to kill them, leylandi shawn down to table top height will grow outwards and be far healthier than if they are just allowed to grow like wildfire near homes and other buildings they might fall on in a storm.

I would be amazed if those shorn Leylandii regrew.
Most conifers including Leyland cypress (x Cupressocyparis leylandii) Junipers, Chamaecyparis etc will not grow new shoots or leaves on old wood.
