Heres the scenario, i posted 2 deals today, one for a Watership Down boxset and one for a Land before time boxset, i did a search to see if they had been posted before and after 5 pages of looking i couldnt so i posted them,

Then i noticed 5 minutes later that the same 2 deals have been posted by another user at a cheaper price and had a pm for the user saying that if i didnt want to be gazumped try looking at these websites etc etc

Ok they were cheaper and i didnt find them but i have posted a few deals in my short time here and if i see a deal and know i can get it cheaper somewhere else then i will post the link in the op's deal as that is what i have seen others do so i followed the sites etiquette,

So what should you do? do you "gazump" as the user pm'd me or do you politely note the deal in the original op's post, to be honest it is the first time i have seen this happen,

Sorry Mike i think you need to get over it, you were advised it had been posted cheaper and searching Watership Down EASILY shows: http://www.hotukdeals.com/search?action=search&keywords=Watership+Down

My advice........................... move on ;-)

what andy did was fine imo, whats the point of leaving ur deal up and him not posting when his is MUCH cheaper.

him just posting one link in ur thread is useless, ppl might not bother clicking his link and buy the product from ur link.

If u decided to post more dvd deals u might want to check out

www.find-dvd.co.uk

and make sure that the item ur about to list is definately the cheapest price.

That want my question if you read my post

also op, the only time where i think its acceptable just to let the op change their original post and when its not acceptable to make a new one, is when the product becomes cheaper in the same store, ie if i list a dvd from amazon at £3.99 and in 2 weeks time somebody notices that the dvd is now £3.50, they should inform me so that i can edit my original post.

OK let me spell it out as I did on Andys post:

As per HDUK rules both the previous cheaper posts by andy are over a month old: http://www.hotukdeals.com/search?action=search&keywords=Watership+Down So a repost by ANYONE at a lower price is allowed  .

So as ace said, he told you on the post and by PM, it may have been missed at the HUGELY lower price UNLESS posted in it's own right at the lower price again
#6
Im sorry but please take the time to read my post, im not commenting on the deal im commenting on the way the deal was posted, big-boy you seem fast enough to defend your mate but not to comment on my post??

I asked "Ok they were cheaper and i didnt find them but i have posted a few deals in my short time here and if i see a deal and know i can get it cheaper somewhere else then i will post the link in the op's deal as that is what i have seen others do so i followed the sites etiquette"

So you havent replied to this question, what is good HUKD policy?? do we post the better deal in the op's deal or do we create another deal gazumping the op's deal, its pretty simple and i have made it quite clear?

That deal was posted 2 months ago @ £24ish
Andy should have either expired it when it went up in price or edited it to show new price which mikes post was for

If you check your search you'l find 3 other posts for this not expired.
HMV@ £29.99 still this price
AMAZON @ £17.97 now £29.48 should be expired
101CD @ £22.99 now £17.91 should be edited or expired if found cheaper

Im amazed that you cant seem to answer my question and you feel the need to post your answer in a large font, either you cant understand what im asking or you cant understand my question, i have made it pretty clear

"Ok they were cheaper and i didnt find them but i have posted a few deals in my short time here and if i see a deal and know i can get it cheaper somewhere else then i will post the link in the op's deal as that is what i have seen others do so i followed the sites etiquette,

Its pretty obvious that as you are skirting the answer you know the answer,

So would andy have posted these 2 deals today exactly 5 mins after i posted my 2 deals, or did he see them and think "i posted these 1 month ago, i think i will post them again now" rather than dropping in my post his link??

Come one, if he wasnt your mate and the same thing happened to you what would you say? think about it for a minute
#10
well if ur question actually made sense we could answer....

do you "gazump"

wtf does that mean?
1 Like #11
what u should do is report ur post and ask a mod to remove it as its not a very good price and then ppl wont buy from the company u listed, then u shud go into andywedges thread and vote hot and congratulate him on finding the same deal as u at nearly half the price.
#12
By gazump do you mean bump?

Find the same item for a cheaper price and post it to make sure that the original op's post goes cold, even though they should make the post in the original op's post rather than posting a new deal within 5 minutes,

The saying came from Estate agents

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gazump

And is frowned upon,

And i also did hot use this phrase it came from andywedge when he pm'd me gloating that he had found the items cheaper,

I have found this site so far really friendly and one of the best to post on, cheers for souring my experience, it makes me now not want to post a deal in case someone "gazumps" me, at least i have had people post in my original post if they can find the deal cheaper,

Cheers

Then the OP of the first post opens an new post and send a link to his new post without having the decency to say "you can get it cheaper @ ???" rather than posting the deal straight away

Oh for goodness sake, stop being a baby and grow up! So what if your post goes cold.

I despair at some people here. Is this site for being helpful or is it for inadequate people to post deals for their own benefit in order to make them feel good if rated hot?I don't post here regularly but I do read a few of the deals and time after time there are people say "If you vote cold please explain" or "I am new, please be gentle" or people who have actually been explained to why something was voted cold and start whinging. Then there are the people who whinge because somebody else has posted similar items in another thread rather than being in the same thread. A lot of people here have a problem with attention-seeking. Absolutely pathetic.

As far as I am aware gazumping is a term used when someone 'snatches' a deal by putting a higher offer at the last minute. I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong

Without being petulant I am sure we fully understand what the OP means.
Going by the rules the other member has not done anything wrong by submitting a new thread, however i doubt this was a genuine coincidence. I feel it was more a case that the other member was 'reminded' of the deal and decided to up his 'rating' here by submitting a new thread so he can take the full 'glory'. If this is true, whether he admits to it or not, only he know, but if this is true I think that was low.

Again on the other hand, the OP here seems to be fully aware of cliques and favouritisms here (as I do) so dont fully understand what he will achieve, I would not lose any sleep over this, or time wondering why/where/when/what...

Why havent you replied to the actual question i was asking? nothing to do with HUKD's official rules, i was asking about the morality of the manner that was made?
#20
So what should you do? do you "gazump" as the user pm'd me or do you politely note the deal in the original op's post, to be honest it is the first time i have seen this happen,

Andy was right to repost it. The problem in your scenario of posting the fact that is cheaper would lead to problems in both text view and full details mode.

Text View: If someone looked at the thread in text view, they would think 'Hmm that's very cold, therefore I will not look at said thread'. And thus they would completely miss the OP post with the cheaper location in as they can not see it in text view.

Full details view: Although the writing in the OP can be seen, a problem could arise in that it might be posted in the thread rather than on an edited OP. Not everyone can edit an OP (you need a certain amount of rep to do so). Although in this situ it is irrelevant due to Andy's level of rep, it is worth noting.

A new deal (if a hot deal) will help everyone as if it goes hot, more people will see it, and thus look at it.

lol spamdog, andywedge has done absolutely nothing wrong here, he found that a deal was much cheaper elsewhere so posted it..............the op is now crying because his deal is rubbish and is now saying

"i wont ever post a deal again" blah blah blah, typical case of someone throwing their toys out of the pram.

andy wedge doesnt have to tell the op but sends him a pm to let him know that his deal isnt very good and even gives him tips on how to make sure the deal ur going to submit is the best price at this time.
#23
OK yes, in this situ it appears a bit odd (to me), that the same deal did appear within 10 minutes, followed by a private message along with it. I'm sure it was nothing but friendly advice, but people do take things different ways, and with the advent of internet forums it is hard to judge emotion and sarcasm etc. It may seem like a bit of a 'glory score' to some, however this is the nature of internet forums and thus it can not be avoided.

It's attention-seeking. However, lobotomy is very safe nowadays.

what Mike is questioning is:
As Andy knew of Mike thread why didn' t he simply give him a chance to amend his post instead of rushing and submitting a new thread??
This is not the first time it has happened, wont be last, nothing you can do just raise above it.

Jesus grow up, im making a legitimate post here and you are slagging me off, great you have thousands of posts but it doesnt make you any better than me, should we all bow down to you because you have been a member here longer than me??

TBH if I posted a deal and somebody found it a cheaper price I would go further than emasu or ace, I would ask the other person to post their find as a deal and then spam my OP and ask others to do so as well.

I wouldn't want anyone to use my deal as it was more expensive, that would be unfair so I would want it removed off the forum.

I think its more a case of a member has seen the first post - realised that it was cheaper elsewhere and posted the cheaper alternative. I don't think there is any malice in it......

This site is about finding the best deals - if a cheaper alternative has been posted by another member (prompted by Clondikemike's post), then Clondikemike's post has at least served some useful purpose...

If gazumping means we get the best deals for items posted - then gazumping should definitely be welcomed...

exactly barney, thats what i was trying to tell op, ask a mod for it to b removed just so no1 buys it from there, when i post a deal i honestly dont care about heat etc, i only post in the hope that someone sees it and thinks "oo thats a good price ill order that"

the op obvs cares about a deal gettin very hot, a few rep points etc, its a shame

well no actually, we answered ur question at the very beginning and then when it wasnt the answer u were looking for, u started to bring in the fact that we have more posts than u and have been here longer.

what the op was looking for was..

"dont worry clondikemike...ill still vote ur deal hot for u, here have some rep aswell, andy is a bad man, how dare he post a hotter deal, lets send him a horrible pm"

No thats fine, but the pm i received from the user basically told me that "you have been gazumped" and i didnt appreciate it, if they posted the original deal and it was cheaper then fine, post the link in the op's post, you dont create new posts for the items and try to "gazump" them as they wrote, by the way why has the original pm not been posted by andywedge?? im not going to post it as it is a pm, but if he gives me his consent i will

There isn't much point if this thread starts going around in circles.

"Gazumping" is a part of internet culture, your perception of this situation will never be avoided or eradicated.

Why PM him?? why not just post a link to the already posted deal like he usually does??
EXAMPLE: "Mike I posted this deal 2 months ago when it was £24 it's now went to £29 which is what you've posted but you can get it even cheaper @ ??? now, So expire this post because i'm just about to post the cheaper price that I've just found OR you can post the new deal because i'm such a nice guy, Take care love ANDY"
