Really not a problem....nothing traumatic about having it and when you come round (and you will) its all just a bit fuzzy for a while... like a good night out with no beer

try not to get too stressed it really is a case of one moment u are in a pre op room and the next minute in the post op.....and then it hurts!

had an op on broken leg about 6 weeks ago general isnt that bad tbh they only put you just under these days so recovery is much easier i was fine couple of hours after it.

I was anxious, but it is fine, went down easy, woke up with no problems what so ever :D

Talk to the anesthetist when he/she comes to talk to you (they usually do before an op) and in my experience they have been really good at calming people down.
I know it sounds silly but try not to think about it, the more you do then the more you'll worry. When it pops into your mind try thinking about something else, a Tv programme you like, what you've got planned for the weekend etc...

Nothing to worry about.......they jab you, you feel a strange taste in the back of your throat and then you are out in a couple of seconds.............next thing you know you're awake. :)

Ive had 10 plus general ops.
No fussing.
Give you a jab to make you woosey.
Go to theatre have 1 more jab a white liquid.
They say count down form 10 9 8 etc by 5 your gone.
when u wake you will have a dry mouth.
Ask for sips of water or ice cubes.
Ice is best
They will have given you pain killers while you were a sleep to help with pain.
next dayuse corodosile i think its call to rinse your mouth or hot as you can take it salt water.
I had All 4 wisdom teeth in one go.

Good luck

As a side note I know people who have been told they need general by one dentist and local by another, a competent dentist will generally prefer to offer local, unless their patient is uncomfortable being operated on under local.

Good luck, wish you fast recovery.

I have a minor op twice a year and don't have the injection but the other people waiting with me in day surgery do and I see them go in and then come around in recovery aftercare. They are a little dozy when they come to afterwards but a nurse is right beside them and also loads of monitors, oxygen etc. In my 14 visits I have never seen anyone not come round nicely and they don't go to the main ward until the nurse is sure they are 100%.
My surgeon calls it "a sedative" not general anesthetic and told me it's got valium in it.
I have had general anesthetic a few times in the past. Woke up feeling incredibly thirsty. And rambled a load of rubbish to the nurses :D While being operated on you are hooked up to a vital signs machine anyway. Once while in surgery my blood pressure dropped hugely and although I was lying down I thought I was going to faint etc and I heard my surgeon saying are you alright - hallo can you hear me... at the time I thought he was telepathic but later I realised that the numbers on my screen must have dropped. I think it would be very hard to snuff it in minor surgery, I have three people or more watching my every breath. Good luck anyway :)

ps the reason I don't have it is because I asked if I "had" to - the surgeon looked surprised but said well we can try it without and see how it goes, and I was still as a rock and didn't whinge so I'm exempt, although he still puts a canula in my arm just in case ( quick way of giving an injection if I start thrashing around or anything!)

Whatever you do, don't be asleep by the time they count to zero, that means they have given you to much

Sometimes trolling a thread can be funny, but in this case the OP is worried and it's really cruel. Karma is a bitch!

I was put under general when I was around 8 to have my tonsils out, my Mum got me to count to 10 but I didn't make it past 5 and I was out. She said she cried wasn't anything to worry about. Of course there are people who don't wake up...so if you're that scared just get a local.

I was just like you, had surgey on my wrist a year ago due to severed tendons .. I was **** it, same feeling as you, fear of death and all that .. however when the anesthetist came round and asked me routine questions like if I smoke how many etc, if they do be very honest with them and tell them how many you smoke if you do.

As I got the operating room, I sat down lay back and asked me to count to ten next thing I remember, waking up in post- op room with nurse next to me monotring my vital signs ..

lol X)

to the OP make sure you write in permanent ink on your chest on what you're having done, so they don't cut off an arm or castrate you!...if you're a bloke

They stopped giving general anesthetics at the dentist because so many people where dying.
You need to go to hospital now if you need general anesthetic.
So you should be safer in hospital.

Better than when I went in, I begged them not to take my tooth out. I've just got to have x rays now every 3 years to make sure my wisdom tooth is okay.
