The Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (Esta) is compulsory for all Brits wanting to travel to the USA. It is currently free to obtain, and lasts for two years. The US Govt. has announced that it will start charging $14 (about £9) per application from the 8th of September.
Yet if you apply before now, you can travel at any time in the following two years providing your passport is still valid. An application can be made online, and although the website states it can take up to 72 hrs for approval, most approvals arrive within a couple of minutes.
With an estimated four million Britons visiting the US each year, I think we ought to save ourselves nearly 40 million quid for a start.........http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20100807/tuk-charge-for-permission-to-enter-us-6323e80.html
