Getting a fridge freezer delivered tomorrow – Do you tip the delivery guys?

So, I'm having a FF delivered some time tomorrow, the company I went with is the only one I could find who would deliver up stairs (actually one other but at a £30 premium).

The delivery will be a little tricky up a total of around 22 stairs from street level, round a bend low door frame ect. Delivery is included in the price of the FF but would you tip the delivery men? I'm not exactly flush atm, but is it the right thing to do?

If you can't afford it don't tip simple. (I wouldn't anyway, it's their job)
#4
I'm sure they don't expect it but I don't see them turning down a brew and a few biscuits. If you are feeling extravagent maybe offer them a bacon sarnie?

When they get it in, should say it's the wrong one ;)

fridge freezers are hardly heavy between two people, just thank them and usher them out the door
#13
tip em a fiver or so as long as they haven't damaged anything along the way.

They won't want to hang about on a Saturday, it will be in/out goodbye. Onto the next delivery. Tip won't cross their mind.
#15
No way they are paid for their job, would not tip

Given a lot of places don't deliver up stairs as you say then i would probably think about giving them a tip in these circumstances.

I don't understand why you've had so much bother getting a company to deliver up stairs. I've lived in flats almost all my life and never had a problem. Maybe it's a new thing. There are a hell of a lot of flats in the UK though so seems a bit daft.

If you can't afford to tip, don't do it.

when i was checking around, looking at the delivery t&cs, half were ground floor only and half were doorstep, then down to drivers discretion.

anyway, all went well, 2 minute job in the end.

Doesnt everyone tip the delivery driver? Hairdresser always gets a tip. When I get my colour done I always tip £10, happily.

Why'd you tip the hairdresser? You are paying them to cut your hair, so no need to tip

a tip is given for exceptional service..i dont tip taxi drivers unless theyre polite-my bro is a taxi driver but i would tip him if i had him him (and he wasnt my bro lol) as i know he is exceptional-kind and cheery and helpful. I also know most taxi drivers work hard for low pay at time of day most people dont want to work! Oh i know he took the job (he CHOSE it cos loves it) but many dont choose they just need a job and dont have the qualifications or education to get better. These days many educated people are couriers or delivery drivers. Do you know how much HERMES get paid? approx 45p per parcel-theyre self employed and use own vehicles.
The guys delivering the fridge prob got £5 max.
ok off me soapbox now lol

BB i cant believe you tip £10 to your hairdresser oO mine gets 50p lol

It's up to you really, personally i would not do it cos that is what they are paid to do.
Starting to think this country is getting more like the US every year, was a shock to the system when i went there and you are expected to tip for most things.
Go to a buffet and tip the waiter for getting you a drink, coach drivers for taking you to your destination and the thing is the Yanks aren't shy about asking for it either, having said that they are a hell of a lot more helpful and cheerful than us Brits.

Thought it was meant to be us Scots that are tight!!

Plumberman - I only tip the £10 when I get my colour done as whole bill comes to about £80, been there ages and yes its crazy money!! Two of my friends pay way over £100 for their hair. One used to go to the local college and get it coloured for less than £20 but stopped going when something went wrong!

I would offer them a cold drink or maybe a beer to take away, but thats it.. why offer tea and biscuits unless you want them to stay longer? I dunno, I wouldnt want them around but thats cos Im a girl!

I don't bother tipping hairdresser anymore.. The last cut worked out at £1.25 per minute (15 min job, she rushed the lot to get to the next appointment) so I figured she could get knotted!

Ive thought about buying the postie a box of chocs in the past (at christmas) as the both of them are really friendly and I hardly ever have to collect parcels etc as they leave in a safe place for me, saving me time and energy.

I don't tip taxi's either.. Im probably a bit tight!
