Ive been thinking of getting a netbook recently as my parents and sister are always on my comp downstairs ( my old pc died so i brough mine down from my room ) so im down a pc to go on the net - i was all set on getting the SAMSUNG NC10 about a week ago and saw it again ont he gadget show yday but looking on the net i saw no cd drive (now maybe thats the norm for netbooks) but its really put me off getting one - but then im starting to think do i actually use the cd drive apart from putting cds onto itunes

So my query to any netbook owners is do you miss the cd drive ?

if its for use only in the house get a normal size lappy mate, netbooks too small really unless youre out and about with it then theyre ideal, and yeah no cd drive is a downer

trade off tho innit, netbook screens are ok for a bit then you want bigger, only good for an hour or so like on breaks at work imo, for long term use at home i use the bigger laptop, netbook never leaves my workbag

A lot of the cheaper netbooks have poor battery life also, none come with an optical drive. Not really an issue though USB flash sticks / drives are taking over.

I won an Advent netbook a couple of weeks ago and our laptop hasn't been turned on since...partially because XP on the netbook runs circles around our laptop running Vista, but partially just because of the convenience. Would definitely recommend going for an XP one if you want to run iTunes etc.

It does have an extremely short battery life (although a larger battery is available for £50ish) but when in the house you can always plug it in if need be...the only downside is that when out and about the power-pack is bulkier than the machine itself!

samsung nc10 is £299 and has 7 hrs battery which beats any laptop

Cheap as in around £200.

The NC10, EEE 901 and 1000(h) have significant battery life. Don't forget though that whilst the numbers look great on paper they're helped by power saving features, underclocking the CPU etc. If you watch a movie for example or anything else that might require more processing power expect the battery life to quickly diminish.
