Had this sent in an email a few days ago. Not sure if its true or not..... but............

FROM SINGAPORE

Good Afternoon,

A fire alarm rang at 4 PM when almost all shift employees are in office (approx 5000).

As usual entire office was evacuated within 3 mins and every employee gathered outside office.

10 mins passed................5 more mins passed.

Security Officer started Announcement: "Dear Employees - With melting heart I am making this announcement that for many of you it will be a last evacuation drill. Due to the recession we are laying off almost 50% of employees. If your ID card does not work anymore, then you are among those laid off and all your belongings will be couriered to you tomorrow. We followed this approach as we didn't want to fill email box size with layoff mails and good bye mails in thousands. We also wanted to avoid any fights inside the office. Hope you have a nice career ahead, please move in and try your luck".

Heard of similar things in this country as well in the past year.

Wow.... I thought that unlikely, but nothing surprises me any more!

That's what I thought. Whilst it was funny to read (it always is when it doesnt affect you and its elsewhere), it somehow conveys a real nastiness in employers regardless of how true it is. ('Cos it is believable)

Dam good way of doing it. Some things you just have to keep simple.....

...btw, I've already been made redundant in the last 6 months so I know what it feels like and the amount of carp that I endured, I'd rather they had done it this way.

Hmm. Not sure I'd feel the same. There is a duty of care that every employee has. Can't say I see any care at all.

Yeah, I hear wot your sayin man, but the reality is that the company doesnt tell you jack hit until you get a letter saying "Thats it. You're now unemployed". They keep you hoping that it wont happen as they need to keep some level of motivation in the workforce so they drip feed you little by little until they drop the bomb shell.

I knew there was something sadistic about your replies MB :p

A worker died today in a fire at a car plant in Birmingham, it is believed the fire alarms worked perfectly fine and everyone else made it out uninjured, reports say his last known words were "I'll be damned if after 25 years they are tricking me out of my job"

When you dish it out as much as me, you need to have a full vocabulary of pwnerisms otherwise it becomes tiresome.

It's not that far off the way I've seen redundancies handled here - one of the companies I worked for set up an offsite meeting (not that unusual for large meetings as the office didn't have great capacity) to discuss current business which was in two hours time. We went, told we were redundant as the company was in administration while lock fitters were busy changing all the locks on the office. We then had to queue up to go in one at a time with a nightclub bouncer to get our personal items back.

Not nice - but at least there were no "try your luck" or "make your day" messages!

Just wonder given what you'd said if it will actually be used!

I'd laugh if this happened at my place. Laugh, because now I've read the email, I know that when the alarm goes off, it's my cue to start a real fire. It'll be great. Fire brigade won't come because they'll have been told in advance not to respond to the alarm (which automatically sends out a call when it's triggered), management won't know to evacuate because they'll think it's all a big trick.
And then things get a little burny. Yeah. That'll teach 'em.
#29
make someone else let you in then proceed to the toilets and begin your dirty protest.
#30
wow, surely that has to be a joke?
