Getting out of an 02 contract

There was a thread on here a few days ago suggesting it was possible to get out of an 02 contract. Can anyone please help me find it. My son is going off to Australia at the end of the month for a year, and 02 have told him it will cost him £600 to buy himself out of his contract. Nightmare!

You can't 'get out of contracts'. They would be pointless if you could.

He'll either have to pay it off, or find someone that would take it over and use it (it would be unofficial as O2 don't do acc transfers, but it would be an option).

If he just goes and ignores it his credit file will be trashed by the time he gets back (and for the 5 years following) and collection agents will be knocking on the doors of any address they can find for him. . .

Thanks for the advice. He will pay it, but was just looking for a back door. Thanks for taking the time to advise.
