Getting Sky HD installed tomorrow, is there anything else I should request while the engineer is there?

......No......I'm not asking if I should be given any sexual advances from the engineer lol but I know a lot of people ask the engineers for extras, such as maybe an extra sky box or installing something so you can watch multiroom etc, so what should be asked, rather than going through Sky for crazy prices?

"would you like a cup of tea?" is always good

He'll tell you that you have to wait a few hours for the movie channels to kick in.
Ignore this - simply call Sky once he's gone and ask for it to be activated. I waited three hours before thinking to make the call, then the operator simply flicked a switch.

And don't fear about the lack of programs in the Anytime menu. These build up over time.

They'll usually sell you a spare remote for £5 as well. Always worth a backup!

Well if you have sky + in already they will be in and out of your house so fast you will wonder what the hell happened:)

Do you mind me asking how much it has cost you to upgrade. We are on sky + at the moment and like you thinking of upgrading to HD.

if you haven't got sky already, ask him to add a some extra cable just in case you ever want to move the position of the tv, I forgot last house but 1 and had to pay someone a fortune to come out when I wanted to move the tv into the corner

If the job is subcontracted they'll happily do whatever you ask for the extra money. Make sure you barter with them though.

Told them i was going to magic eye the sky to upstairs. They offered to do it for £50. Saved myself the money and did it myself.

Work out where you would like the dish and cables to go in advance. He will put it in the easiest place with shortest cable run but you have to look at it afterwards. Be prepared to bung them a few quid if he bends the rules for you (like running cable through loft and down cavity, as he did for me)

I'm a completely new customer, as I've only just signed up to Sky for the first time but I'm getting every channel for about £29 per month including HD. :)

Thanks for that, I'll make sure I ask him that....especially since the new plasma hasn't arrived yet and that's going on the wall instead of the corner where the current tv is. :)

I've seen the Magic Eye with remote for about a tenner, whereas Sky wanted to charge me £43.50 including postage....or £85 for the engineer to do it. :S

What other services are worth asking for and to future proof everything? :)

I only have one floor but thanks for the tip, as I don't want to see a Sky dish every time I look out my window lol

I don't think he'd be interested in that....I think he'd be more interested in fixing up my house. :-D

I got HD installed last week. They guy was great. I had lost my sky channel upstairs and also got my arials all mixed up, nobody could work it out as there are sooooo many cables and plugs in here.:? He sorted it all out for me and said all I need now is the magic eye to change channels upstairs. I`ve ordered one from ebay so hopefully it will be ok.

Agreed on the extra cable. Tell him you intend to put the tv at the furthest point from where he routes the cable. Its easy enough to cut it down once your tv arrives and you are sure where you want to put the box

I say he but what if it's a she? Would these advances you speak be seen in a different light:w00t:

I was gonna say ask for sexual favours..but seeing as you dont want to do that..... I have nothing constructive to add :p

Hmmmm......I stumped as well....should I send him in your direction afterwards....or would you also reject him, as I don't know if he can handle being rejected twice in one day. lol

That's a point, I'm definitely getting Magic Eye....no matter how dirty that sounds, as I want to watch it in my bed as well....oh damn....I'm making this worse for myself, aren't I? lol

Do you think it'll make a difference that I've only got a standard CRT tv in the corner at the moment, as I'm waiting for my plasma to arrive in the next week or so and that's going to be a little further away from the corner, as it's going on the wall....damn, I can't believe I'm going to have HD but no plasma lol

Yeah, I've floating glass shelves....which I still have to get around putting up lol, so I know where the sky box is going, so I don't want the cables to be sticking out like a sore thumb.

I did consider that fact earlier.....although I'd still reject her.....well......the other engineers may become jealous and think I'm being sexist lol
