New!! Cost wouldn't matter to me.

Only way I wouldn't mind an old one was if it was a family heirloom

Second hand one off ebay would result in a short sharp slap, lol

Thought this was going to be a medical based thread

Can't imagine many people being impressed with a second hand engagement ring, I would have thought it was the sentiment not the monetary value that was most important.

What if the family heirloom was from a woman in the family who had a early death???
Like murdered, or something.

nothing worse than an old battered ring:whistling:

oh, erm... I was thinking more along the lines of great great grandmas, she died peacefully in her sleep at the ripe old age of 102 didn't she? lol

spot on, you want one you can easily slip in and out of.
#7
I dont mind the whole heirloom thing, a little bit of history is usually nice, but if it was just some random 2nd hand one that was bought I'd hit you with it, then toe you in the balls and dump you.

Please don't add to the tags, the one already is bad enough...

Family heirloom or new is my preference.

Although some antique rings are gorgeous. If unsure i would buy a cheap CZ to propose with and when she says yes. Explain you seen gorgeous antique one but didnt want to buy w/o her seeing it first in case she had set ideas what her ring should be like. I mean we got to wear it for next 50/60 years

It wouldnt matter what it cost to me but would want a new one.

But my ring isnt a costly one but it means the world cos he went and chose it.

My first engagement ring was an antique diamond on a new setting, bloody diamond fell out and I lost it, sticking to new from now on :)
#29
New for me please - though I wouldn't mind old gold smelted down to create an original new ring either.

New ring, new start, new adventures. I don't like thinking that there might be 'bad' history with something like this.

i'd be happy with new or old, as long as it a style i liked and had been cleaned up, and i think i would rather a larger diamond and you get more for your money second hand, x

Thats how I'd think... The ring I got for my 21'st is was second hand..I saw it loved it and decided that was the one I wanted.
