It's a text not a test, and it's not a deal. Worthwhile cause but this sort of thing is better suited to misc.
#2
Agreed. Not a deal.
#3
Thanks for posting, worth prompting people. Think I've got some credit on some spare sims, will try them out whilst watching some of the bits from the show.
#4
i know its not a deal but wanted people to know

For a fair percentage to be lost in admin charges, a further percentage to be lost in "management", and the rest snaffled by a corrupt regime in the destination country?

No thanks.
#15
how long does it take for the reply to come back

It'd be sad for this ignorance to put people off giving to a worthy cause. Comic Relief work hard to make sure that the help gets to the right people.
#17
no thanks, I have my own causes.
#18
well we've done it - glad to do something good!

Must take a particularly uncharitable person to expire this. Being on the front page gives it the most exposure.
#22
its was not doing any harm on front page cant it be unexpired?

Oh, and I may be the only one on the thread who had the guts to say it, but my rep says a lot of people agree.
#25
yer i think this should be unexpired. keep it on the front page. I know the UK has its own issues, but look at how easy it is for us, even with the current economic crisis . . .

£5 aint that much is it.

They work hard, but it still happens. I'm not saying it's not a worthy cause, just don't expect anywhere near the total amount raised to make it to the people that need it.

The full £5 you donate goes to help people who are much less fortunate, people who are dying. Not 1p goes on admin charges.

^^^ And that is my point.

You may donate £5, but how much ACTUALLY gets to those who need it? £1? 50p? If you're lucky.

Read the broadsheets on a Sunday - MDs/CEOs etc etc vacancies advertised for charities with salaries £60k+ ...."chuggers" in the street getting £10/hour.....how does THAT help others?

If people really wanted to HELP, they would work for charities for FREE. You can argue 'til the cows come home about paying for quality people, but at the end of the day, people should NOT be getting paid twice the average UK salary for working for a CHARITY. It's disgusting.

grrrrrrrrr
#29
i despise red nose day.....millionaires begging for skint tv viewers to give money to the cause...why dont they all give 10% of their annual wage to comic release and stop spending so much money on backstage parties during the show...
#30
they wont take the second £5 :(

i will try again tomorrow in the hope the limit is per day if not i am sure there will something else i can use it for :P

Even if only 50p gets to the people who really need it, it is surely better than them getting nothing?

Is it not worth £4.50 getting wasted if the remaining 50p makes it through to those who have nothing?

Without wanting to be rude, it doesn't take 'guts' to say what you did.

As for charity workers, yes it would be nice if they worked for free but realistically these charities do need to pay these wages to attract a decent level of worker. What's to say they don't have the skills to earn more in another, more 'capitalistic' environment?

This is a good deal for the people in these countries.

I'd argue - NO.

It was proven that 90% of the money raised by Live Aid was intercepted and squandered by corrupt governments in Africa.

Until those governments change, this will always be the case.

Does the idea of people getting PAID to work for a CHARITY not offend you to the core?

You pay £4 a month to a charity (for example) - NONE of that will go to a starving child - it barely pays for a half hour of chugging!

It is SO wrong.

Not really. I don't think there are enough people with sufficient means to work for free in this country.

So what would you do? Cut off aid until the people in these countries stage an uprising against the armed militias in these countries?

Maybe you're proposing a redistribution of the world's wealth so that we stop exploiting these people so that we may live in relative luxury. That's a good idea.

2 million or so unemployed? Make em work for their benefits.

Perhaps it's the answer.... Seriously, what's the point of millions of aid if almost all gets intercepted and doesn't go to the people that need it?

Africa has wealth. Zimbabwe et al were in a far better position under the empire, greed has since taken over and now 1% of the populace own 99% of the wealth.

I know it's not at all the most reliable source, but Wikipedia's entry says:

"One of the fundamental principles behind working at Comic Relief is the 'Golden Pound Principle' where every single donated pound is spent on charitable projects. All operating costs, such as staff salaries, are covered by corporate sponsors or interest which is earned while money raised is waiting to be spent (granted) to charitable projects."

That's quite a goal.

I think we can all agree to disagree on this one, but for the record I think it does take guts for grex to put his head above the parapet knowing that he might get shot down.

We are way too willing to take wage cuts and redundancies yet STILL give money to Africa when our OWN are left on the streets to starve. I had a door knock from the British Red Cross just the other night, basically he said that ANYONE can afford £2p/w to save lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Suggested that the only problem there is that Im ALREADY paying £50p/w to bomb and shoot these people (via income tax), and to pay more to "fix" them seems ludicrous as they will no doubt end up fighting our guys again using up more of my tax bought bullets etc?!?! I don't condone what we're doing there BUT I sure as hell aint paying twice, thats just dumb!! CHARITY SHOULD BEGIN AT HOME, this country is going to the dogs and all we can think about is chucking money at a, quite frankly, pointless cause (perhaps if they STOPPED having 15 kids they coudl reach a sustainable level?!?!?).
