I have to appear as a witness at the Glasgow district court but can't make it because I have Uni exams. Anyone know how I let them know? The case is next week and I've been trying to call but been passed around 4 times before being given 1st number I used.

Its a real pain because been I've gone in 3 times already and thought it was all done with because I gave evidence last time

is there any paperwork you have been given with a unique case reference number or similar, if so phone up the number and explain that you are a witness with regards to R v (whatever) and that the case number is (whatever), explain what you are required to do and the reason you may not be able to attend.
They may be able to defer your bit for a time when you're free or thay may ask that you defer the exam for another time instead.

Is that the court down by the Gorbels? Nice area, that. I used to cut through it on the way to a mate's house.

Anyway, I'd be surprised if you could cancel an appearance by phone. It'd leave witness cancellations open to forgery far too easily. I guess you might have to go down in person with ID for this one.

They'll only let you off if the judge considers it would be undue hardship for you to attend. You'd need to go to the court as dxx said, and ask nicely. Otherwise it's probably a uni extenuating circumstance form?

you wont get out of that because of exams dude, you will have to re-sit the exam on your own at a later date.

I am a witness in a case and unable to attend Court. Whom do I contact?

Contact the relevant PF’s Office by telephone as soon as possible informing them you are unable to attend and the reason why. The reason for nonattendance must be important, such as illness, holiday booked, hospital or urgent business appointment which cannot be rescheduled. The PF will request confirmation in writing and possibly a photocopy of a holiday booking form or letter from your doctor or hospital.

If you can be absent because of a holiday I'm sure a Uni exam will be an acceptable reason!

Finally got put through to the correct department but when they went to put me through to person that deals with these things she wasn't there so I had to leave a voicemail.

If they say an exam doesn't count I will just get a doctors note then.

How many times are they allowed to call you in? My first 2 times we sat around all afternoon before being told we wouldn't be needed then 3rd time after a long wait gave evidence. I was told that was that and we'd just be sent out the results. Any idea why I'd be called up again?

They obviously think they need you for whatever reason dude, you would do better to get them to give you a note in order to re-arrange the exam, sitting in a room on your own doing an exam is pap but you wont miss out.

Jury duty may be a little different, but i had to do it no matter what, missed work, motorcycle test, and more, funny thing is, i still felt guilty sending people down that were definatly guilty of thier crime.. weird...

call the criminal justice unit or the officer in the case at the relevant police station and explain to them. They may be able to make other arrangements , ie you could give evidence earlier or later in the day or postpone the case.

Just got a call back and it is now being passed onto another department for them to consider it. So gotta wait for another call

Its a right pain cos its next week and only got citation letter in post on Tuesday but wasn't home until today so first time I've seen it.

Its just messing me up big time for getting prepared for exams.

Got a call from court today to say I shouldn't have even been called up as it is just 1 policeman that is still to give evidence

What a load of hassle for nothing!!
