There is a scheme for debit cards although it is not widely publicised. Give your bank a call.

Your bank have lied

Visa debit cards But any debit card that operates within the VISA scheme also carries cover. Visa says it has strong rules in place to protect cardholders, and you should contact the card issuer.

Well all she can do then is chase up the debit card issuer or if she took out insurance, claim with them.

useful info-I specifically asked them about this(lloyds tsb) last year before booking a holiday and they said a debit card offered NO cover-doesnt surprise me tbh that they were wrong-think they need to brush up their staff training.

If cards are not covered - have they holiday insurance?

A lot of holiday insurance (mine included) doesn't cover for companies going bust i'm afraid.

if flights only and bought from ATOL agent with debit card (usually a small extra charge for this) then you should get back every penny

Speak to the bank and as it was paid by Visa Debit then there is a charge back option but it will take a while for the chargeback to go through. Good luck!
