For some strange reason my friends are getting dozens of emails sent from my Gmail email account and most are of a sexual content.

I have done a full virus scan and everything appears to be OK. Any ideas how I can stop this please?

I have looked at the following too for advice, but doesn't help:

change your password.

Chances are they are not actually coming from your account, just spoofed.

Appreciate that, but I have been using it for years and never had a problem like this...

sounds like a virus, sure youve done a proper check?

you can set up filters so that emails containing specific words get sent straight to the bin.

Edit: Ignore me, i just read the post again and realise i just made no sense.

spammers can use yur email as a sender not even having access to your account, are you using any program to send emails or you're using the web version?

+1 this.

Check the header from one of the emails allegedly coming from you, it'll probably show that it's not coming from gmail at all.

I use Incredimail

This might be the reason, try to stop using it for some time and check if emails are still sent, this could be a virus, check this, alternatively u can use different program like mozilla thunderbird or the bat

Stop drinking while your laptop's on?

Straight over my head that one, but it has worked by me deleting all my contacts on GMail... I have used Incredimail for years now and love the thing,....

Do you use Yahoo as a stand alone email client or do you use a 3rd party like Outlook or Incredimail etc? The way I sorted it was to delete my contacts list in GMail as I don't use it anyway. If I send an email from my GMail account it is done via Incredimail and that has done the trick...

Changing your password will help if someone has gotten a hold of your password. This would give them access to your email and leave them free to send spam from your account.
if they're using your email as way of distributing spam, it's unlikely your account has been specifically targeted by a hacker - more that you've been phished or hacked along with thousands of others and yours and everyone elses email accounts are being used to send huge amounts of spam.

Changing the password will mean the spammer can no longer use your account.

I had a similar problem with my hotmail account. I changed my password and deleted my contacts as a precaution. problem solved!

Not to diss your choice of client but I think that Incredimail is a a steaming pile of a cat urine. My gran used it because of the fancy sounds and animations but I would question the security of the software as she had similar problems.

Offline I can't see past Thunderbird (it also has RSS and Newsgroup reader) but using Gmail you are as well using the online suite. It has a brilliant interface not to mention the integration with Calendar, Picasa, Docs, Google Reader and all the other Google bells and whistles. Also there is a Google Mail app for phones that allows easy sync.

I use Firefox so might give Thunderbird a try. Like I said I have used Incredimail for several years now and enjoy it, but don't use any of the animations etc...
