Go Via Glitch on train websites

I recently noticed that If I were to take the following journey:

RHL (Rhyl) to WBQ (Warrington Bank Quay)

Then go to advanced search and select : Go Via - MAN (Manchester Picadilly).

It will show you the timetable for the outward journey with 2 changes - Rhyl to Manchester, Manchester to Warrington Central, Central to Bank Quay.

The problem being, WBQ is before Manchester/ on the same line.

I assume this is just a glitch although if I were to buy tickets like this, would the route for the outwards ticket say Via Manchester and would they be valid to do so?

Not a glitch at all, you could go via any station if you really wanted to and were prepared to pay for it. Im not sure what the advantage of this ticket would be but I assume it would say 'via any permitted' and then you would have reservation tickets that break the journey down into its stages. But why would you even bother?

I think they mean that its 1 train from Ryhl to Warrington Bank Quay with no changes then the system assumes via Manchester means you want to go through Manchester instead of the Manchester route on the Rhyl train.

As I used to live in Warrington and go to Chester on the train and it continued to Rhyl after I got off it.

At least its not as bad as when I go to Kilmarnock and want to go to Ayr it gives me the prices for Ayr Via Glasgow automatically and I have to go into the start screen and manually change the route which is awkward.

Well if its already a direct train with no changes why would anyone be stupid enough to add 'via Manchester' then? Esp knowing its on the same line after WBQ

What I basically mean is

Rhyl to Warrington Bank Quay is typically a straight route , Manchester Pic being a few stops afterwards).

If you select GO VIA Manchester on the advanced options, it will do as I specified - the point I was trying to make was that it charges the same as a Rhyl-Warrington ticket fare, the question being is the GO VIA Manchester printed anywhere on the ticket and would it be valid/ within the rules, be allowed?
