Well if it boots the OS (windows etc) then generally the components are working, no saying how long for though

lol i mean any tips ? cheers

open it up, check the caps. avoid if any are bulging or leaking!
http://www.auroracomputer.ca/images/bad_cap.jpg

further testing on ram, hdd etc would require a boot disc and some knowledge of what you're doing..

oh ok, where are these caps actually located on? or would i see them clearly once i open the case?

Are you kidding me?? Do you really expect someone who knows nothing about computers to look at things like this?

I would just check that it boots, and if it needs any recovery media to make sure it comes with it. Make sure the windows certificate of authenticity is stuck on it for the windows licence. And make sure the fans are not blowing on max all the time when you turn it on. Other than that, this must be a cheap pc because they are so cheap these days its hardly worth buying a used one!!

would that mean the pc if completly busted or jst the motherboartd would need replacing? thaaanks

Good advice with the caps, had to replace 1 with split bottom on my mobo last year, although it did show symptoms. Randomly cutting out.
Op how much is computer and how old?

According to seller: The CPU, fans, case, PSU, motherboard are about 3/4 months old. The GPU, RAM, HDD & DVD drive are about a year old.

Shouldnt be much to worry about then. As long as it boots and runs properly.
Computers can be unpredictable at times but the price of components these days if something does failncan usually be easily replaced.
As long as your getting a good deal i wouldnt worry to much.
Do you have spec?

If as old as you say then the price is Fair.
as you seem to come across as knowing nothing I like others can't help you much. What I would say is that you could tell the seller to download the Link below that will when he installs this programme it can tell you if it's overheating & if it is then don't buy it.You will know if it's overheating as it will show you the little Flames symbols.
Read what it tells you so you understand the programme for tomorrow & you can even google it.It will take the guy no more than 2 minutes to download & run this very small programme & at least you will know if the Motherboard is going to go on fire or not.

would that be prebuilt? I can't build... if so, can you provide link? cheers

Its not that bad deal with monitor, just feel it could be better. Graphics card aint up to much. Cpu overclocked. Mobo uses old amd socket am2+ so no upgrade on cpu to newer models. Mobo also will only support ddr2 ram as fitted. Case is nicecand spacious, personally own it.
What are you looking to get out this? Your not planning on gaming or anything?
#18
The Monitor alone sells at around £100 on ebay as I've sold 3 of them in the past & they all sold for £109 BIN delivered.

I'm looking into a bit of gaming... Also i seen the GPU can go to £50 sold, so i cud rpelace with 5770 and tht wudnt be too large a difference no?
banned#20
But seriously if anyone has a better prebuilt model , then show me.. cos i tried finding one for weeks and cudnt find anything thats less than £350 , am looking to improve this pc bit by bit, i understand its not perfect for today's games
#21
I would not touch a home build pc with a barge pole, you never know who has put it together.

Have you heard of europc? Google them, they sell refurbs for dell etc. Go to their site and have a look at the systems for your price range. Specs are quite a bit higher than one your thinking of and am3 and ddr3 so easily upgradable

ok ok, lol thx guys, i will cancel .. hmm maybe a more dramatic explanation tho lol
#27
Really you want to run Prime95 or ask him to run it before you come so it can get a few hours under its belt and see how it goes. A few runs of 3DMark Vantage also to make sure the graphics card is okay.

It will be pretty obvious if there is anything wrong, as Prime95 will either error or just make the computer crash. 3DMark Vantage will show artifacts if it has problems.

Case: Antec 300 £35
Case Fans: x3 120mm (2x Front, 1x Rear), x1 140mm (Top)
CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 445 Processor @ 3.875GHz (1.45V, 52C under load) £45
CPU Fan: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 £10
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 £45-£50
RAM: Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) 800MHz 4-4-4-12-2T £50

PSU: Antec TruePower New 550W Modular PSU £50

Using ebay Completed listings this is the Average price of all these items sold in recent weeks without postage being added & it Totals £387 So not a bad deal if it's as new as seller states.
Seller maybe also given buyer the COA for Windows 7 ?

Of course if you add more Money you will get a better PC,but the PC you where talking about I would say was a fair price & the seller was given a fair price.Good luck on your new project ;-)
