Borrow the uncles equipment...

Find a very local camp site with a Google search...

I did an overnight in the garden with my son at that age...

Then we did a very local campsite just after...

make sure you take some games...for when it pee's it down & get an electric hook up

Go Ray Mears style... flint, knife and head into the woods... :)

have a look at www.ukcampsite.co.uk they have hundreds of sites on there, just do a search nearish to home and it will list what each camp has as onsite facilities.
If you can I would get hold of or borrow an air mattress, it's harder than you think sleeping on the floor. Take a torch with you for night time toilet trips.

for your first trip all you need is a small tent, air mattress, sleeping bags, pillows, a torch, a small battery operated lamp for in the tent, toilet roll (just incase they run out), something to drink and some snacks (you could always get a take away or eat out), something like a game to keep the little fellow entertained if it's raining. Also take some extra layers of warm clothing incase it gets cold at night.

It's to plug in the TV, XBOX 360 and kettle - how else will you be entertained and prepare Pot Noodles? My advice, just go camping - find somewhere you can light an open fire, cook sausages on sticks and enjoy being outside! The 5 yo will love it!

Agree with the link to ukcampsite.co.uk. Great site, use it all the time.

An electric hookup is good if you want to run a fridge/coolbox from mains power. We also run a light from ours. BUT, if you are only going away for weekend it is probably not needed. Take a non-electric coolbox with you and many sites will let you hire icepacks to keep it cool while you are away. Replace them every morning and it should keep milk/cheese/butter/meat cool enough.

Enjoy your trip :-D

Be sure to take waterproofs and wellies. The best way to occupy kids if it is raining it splashing in puddles. You might even find yourself enjoying it.

forget a camp site, just go wild camping somewere, just take a tent, a knife, and some flint.
#18
It's definately much more fun if you forget about all the things you should take 'just in case'. It's all part of the fun improvising when your camping - your son will have a great time :).

Yeah, go to Epping Forest, you might even get to see someone from Eastenders burying a body (it's weeks since that happened so one must be due soon).

nowt wrong with that - I am too

- my husband and 10 year old son are going camping soon up in Scotland - I hate camping so there is no way on earth I will go with them - my son wants to see if he can get a glimpse of the Loch Ness Monster (just hope he doesn't see my husband naked in the morning - lol)
