Staying near Times Square, room only.

There for 4 days - want to see as much as possible but not spend a fortune.

I know about the TKTS booth for cheap theatre; anyone got anymore tips - travel passes, good restaurants etc.

Don't eat anywhere near Times Square. Especially don't eat in the diner where the waiters/watresses sing - they're all Broadway rejects and it's horrible.

Make use of the subway, WTC site and financial district are cool to see. Staten Island Ferry is free, and will take you past Statue of Liberty.

do the 'Top of the Rock' rather than Empire State.
You can see the whole of central park from the Top of the Rock, and you get the Empire State in the view. Also on a good clear day you can see the Statue of Liberty too!

The crown access for the Staue of Liberty is amazing too, but pre book tickets, you're unlikely to get them on the day, as they restrict numbers.

Go Staten Island Ferry, quick and cheap.

We went for the full Statue of Liberty boat....2hrs of security clearance boat, then on the isalnd. Total paranoia. It was OK but would ahve got just as much from a distance on the free ferry. A whole lot less time too.

Go subway as much as you can. Most of out most memorable memories were people we met on the subway, amazing.

Central Park is a must but forget the pony and trap rides. We figured out the local buses, which cover most of the perimiter of Central Park. We walked across one side to another at 8am one morning...all locals out with their desgner dogs.

NY is not a place to go for a relaxing holiday. Up and out early every morning to make the most of it all. We apcked it all in.

Plan well and you will enjoy

Get the Rough Guide...money well spent. We were there 5 days...still need to go back.

Amazing place so make the most of it
