GOLF HOLIDAY LOCATIONS - Any recommendations?

Last year we travelled to Vilamoura, Portugal and found the convienience of the shuttle buses, location near to the golf courses, beach and marina excellent.

We tried to book a similar package this year but the cost has rocketed, and there is no availability at the end of September.

Can anyone recommend another resort, anywhere in Europe? Preferraby we would prefer not to have to hire a car, but thats not really an issue. The only requirements apart from the golf are being close to a beach, some bars and restaurants.

Yes it is lovely, we went to Olhos de Agua a few weeks ago & walked one day (2 & half hrs ... but well worth it ) alone the coastline to Vilamoura & thought it was a wonderful place ..... so relaxing & peaceful compared to Albeifura. ...............Needless to say we got a bus back !

La Manga ... Spain.

visited it donkey's years ago when it was just getting off the ground and 'Stewpot' was there together with Patrick Mower, Bernard Cribbins, Cliff Michelmore and other obscure people..........with a Golf Tournament.

I was more interested in getting my pic taken with Patrick Mower, but I understand its now a great place for Golf!

(and yes.........I was very very young at the time!!)

We stayed in a hotel on the 'strip' as it was then... was a great hol.:)

Is there anything to do in the evening at La Manga or Aphrodite Resort ?

This year it's only me and another guy who have been given permission from other halves for a golf trip. The others have all been barred :whistling:

Vilamoura was ideal, as we dont want nightclubs, just decent restaurants and bars that stay open late.

Paphos is good - its located some way out of paphos, nestled in the hills overlooking the med. With a lot of bookings to there you get a free hire car from what I've seen so you can perhaps go into Paphos or even limassol.

There''s loads to do at night, with entertainment and huge arrays of food etc:- http://www.aphroditehills.com/

I suppose if you wanted, you could actually stay in paphos itself and go up there in the car - Paphos has many awesome hotels, and I know a lot about the island so if you have any questions just ask.

la manga is quiet on a night, nice restaurants, not so good for a lads holiday but superb for some lovin time lol, there is "the strip" a short ride away where there is more nighty stuff, the courses though are great and you can join in the weekly comps too mon pairs, wed and fri individual and they alternate round all three courses

Try in the areas around Vale do Lobo and Qunita do Lago, just a few miles away from Villamoura. VDL & QDL themselves are a lot more expensive generally than Villamoura, but move 1 mile outside those estates and the prices will drop.
Try www.teetimes.pt for golf bookings, been using them for years. Make sure you play Pinheiros Altos, great course!
Finally, if you look at the above website, you'll see which months are cheapest for golf. Plan your trip on that basis and you'll save loads.

HTH,
Steve
