Golf Match TDI - Ipod connection - Please help!

Just bought a new Golf Match (old shape obviously) and due to pick it up in a week. I know that the centre console has an Ipod connector and that you get "connectors" or plastic shapes that fit round your Ipod to dock it in place.

Does anyone know which Ipod is best to use with it? and is there another cable to connect it to or do you have to use the centre Ipod connector?

I've only got a shuffle, so I guess I'm planning to buy a new Ipod too as that won't work with it I don't think.

Help appreciated!

I have got a 58 plate Golf match and have connected a 120gb Classic, a 2nd gen 20Gb iPod and a latest 8Gb nano to it. Only one i needed to use an adaptor with was the nano. My car came with a plastic bag full of adaptors but as I say you only need them for nanos of touches. Do not know if they work with iPhones but doubt it as sllot doesn't look big enough. What you get when you connect it is the first 5 playlists on your iPod and the 6th is the whole iPod. I tend to have it on the 6th one and select Mix (shuffle). Your shuffle will not connect in to it as it uses a standard iPod dock connector.

If it is anything like the iPod connector I had in my Audi I wouldn't bother. I stuck an iPod touch in there and every two or so songs it would interrupt playing to rescan my library. It only took ten seconds or so but it became bloody annoying. That and the fact that it couldn't read any tags so every song was Track 01, Track 02 etc, which made navigation impossible. I couldn't get it to recognise my iPod Nano 2G but it had no problems with my iPod Touch 1G of a similar vintage.

The plastic adapters were mostly rubbish and didn't slot in properly. You more or less had to wedge one in somehow to try to keep your iPod horizontal so that it didn't weigh down on the connector.

On my Audi I had to select CD 7-11 for playlists and CD 12 for all the songs on the iPod in alphabetical song title order. CD 1-6 would just look at the autoloader in my CD tray and come up with "No CD".

If you press and hold the menu button, the ipod/aux settings should come up. Try that, activate the ipod/aux, should work then.

The aux setting is for the 3.5mm socket near the cigarette lighter not for the inbuilt iPod connector in the glove compartment.
