Its a big day-fingers crossed for them.

Remember, its not how you start, its how you finish-a good performance today will change everything.

I shall be cheering them on at 3pm,possibly the only Scotsman to do so,and the dalmatian will have its vuvuzela at the ready.

Nice1 Barky, we need all the support we can get!
Let's hope they pull it out of the bag, if they play their hearts out (like South Africa did yesterday against France) we might still have a chance!

I'd like them to go through to the quaters or semis....its good for football when one of the home teams does well. I'm not really a big football fan and my son (aged 8) is taking an interest in the game and has even announced he supports Man U (which is the first I've heard of him supporting any football team)

Good luck from N Ireland.
Look, we are one country made up of 4 nations. We try to bring other nations together (Iraq & Afghanistan). I have English friends and wish them all the best!

Thank you Barky :) What is it with the Scots disliking us so much. It was world cup 98 when I first became aware of this. I was willing Scotland on in their first game against Brazil, then I saw the news with scottish supporters cheering on every other team that play us. Since then I've found I've taken amusement in Scotlands footy misfortune. Its a vicious circle

Yeah, but Slovenia may also play their hearts out.

Thanks for your support (we're going to need it).
We'll be fully backing Murray in return

It's not England, English people or the English team, it's the English media. Their shenanigans are grating. You'll also find that most "nations" within close proximaty to each other have a rivalry: Germany - Holland, Argentina - Brazil. It also happens at club level: Everton - Liverpool, Rangers - celtic.
#9
Now your a true 'MAN' ! not many of them around when it comes to football , :-D
Cheers for support , Barky

Yup, come on England.
Let's hope the players can start acting like a team and work for each other with a bit more commitment.
And let's hope that Fabio plays a system that the team understand.
My prediction:
England 3 -0

Very true - there is huge rivalry between Holland and Germany hence the Dutch beer stunt of dressing Holland fans in orange liederhosen......

I'll be cheering on England, too. I don't get the anti-English thing of my countryfolk, either. Really can't stand that attitude of wanting to bring down someone else, just because we weren't good enough to cut it.

I know that Holland was once annexed by Germany but after the war, they were forced to let the Dutch have their own rule again. Scotland is part of the UK. There is a difference. Whilst I'll acknowledge there is now a reciprical negativitey towards Scotland from the English, that is relatively new. 99% of the population were behind Scotland in 74 and 78 for example. Hellfire... I still root for the Republic of Ireland when they're playing!

And rivalry at club level is a red herring.

Nice one Barky.

Or just confused at the fact they have just labelled themselves as a chav!

Not much of a football fan myself but thats a nice gesture Barky. I consider myself English first and British second so i will always support Britain whatever the sport. The negativity (from particularly the scots) seems very bitter and childish to me.

England NAPPIES? Can't the hardcore drinkers make it to the toilets on time, or they can't bear to tear themselves away from the game? :p

PS: Good luck England, from a weegie ;-)

The Scots don't dislike the English, I have been living in England for 12 years and have met far more English people that hate the Scots than vice versa. It is the minority of stupid individuals on both side of the border that give the rest a bad name. The problem is the Scots can take banter on their team cos we know they're not great where the English can't. If we had a team as good as England's we probably would take it all more seriously too.

Saying that the whole world dislike English football fans because of the minority that can't take banter abroad and kick off. ;-)

Agreed. It was disgusting what happened in Manchester when Rangers fans visited.

I hope you get pumped (no hate). :)

How would you describe the negativity from your media towards:

Germany
France
Italy
Argentina

Not spoiling, merely reinstating some balance.

I hope England don't get through - you simply don't deserve to. For that reason mainly, but I'd still like a chuckle when the inquisition starts, that's always good for a laugh - if a little predictable.

There are already numerous "we hate England" threads. Why not just keep to those?

How many times do you need to set yourself up for a fall?

You do realise if they win todays game they qualify? (No hate - I know Scotland have never achieved this.)

BTW... "For that reason mainly" is complete BS. You've said this before a ball was kicked and lets be fair, I think you can safely say we qualified with ease.

From what I've seen the media have been quite complimentary towards the Germans and Argentina. With Italy their opponents seem to have grabbed the headlines, but Italy have been poor by their standards.

Any negativity towards the France team/setup is entirely justified.

Where are these "we hate england threads" i havent seen any

Thats cos we suck and we know it, which brings me to my next point, England suck even more that we all previously thought and you dont quite realise it yet :p surely drawing with algeria was a big hint?

If you'd played well until now, it wouldn't be my main reason. As you've played crap, it is my main reason. You're entitled to disagree.

I'm not just referring to their footballing prowess or otherwise.

Have you seriously not heard the plethora of sly remarks attributed to the Germans via the pundits, especially the likes of Chiles and Lineker?
#35
thanks for support we may needed it
its a shame others from uk dont feel the same

I see it had to desecend into an anti english/scottish thread once more.

Boring.

Well you did your best Barky. It was too much to expect the haters to resist and thread spoil.

I'm sure they will gloat if we do lose today, but dissapear (as usual) if we win. C'est la vie.

Can't say I have to be honest, I don't listen to any of the pap that goes on during the build up - only interesed in analysis of the match afterwards.
I would start a new thread regarding non-football comments so this one is kept on topic
