Hello all! Had an idea to start up my own car cleaning business! nothing too fancy just a small van jetwash/brush clean etc. would charge £4 per car and £5 for larger vehicles!
Do you think many would want this service or is it a poor idea? comments and advice welcome! Thanks!

I think it's a good idea, especiallly if you're mobile and vacuum too!

You need to thinking of a lot more than that.. Don't forget Public Liablity Insurance / Petrol / Wear and tear on Vehicle and tools / etc

Remember you might have to carry your own water... Water meter at home etc..

Not the best time of year to be honest.

The guys who do our cars charge a bronze, silver and gold service (and make the silver look very attractive) so every one has the silver. About £8 per car.

tbh it is very seasonal as people are not going to pay for their car to be washed in wet weather. depends where you are but i'm guessing most places in the uk have rain have around 100-150 days rainfall.

Have you just plucked this price out of the air? Also how would you power the jetwash and where would you get the water supply from?

Water tanks in the van! with a portable jetwash that can suck water from the tanks!
#7
Are you on a water meter? How would you power the jetwash? Have you got any of this equipment or does it all need buying? Infact how about posting your business plan instead of everyone asking loads of questions!

Have you considered the running cost of a van that contains a jet washer, water tanks, and the chemicals you would need? Are you sure you would make any money when you take off the cost of your petrol, wear and tear on the equipment and vehicle? A small jetwash like the ones on offer now and then for £60-100 isn't designed for heavy use?

Petrol driven?

To be honest there are too many valeting places (around here anyway, they usually take over closed petrol stations), they are driving each others prices down, so for a fiver you get vacuum, dash clean, wash and hand chamois, extras such as alloy clean and protect isnt much more either, I struggle to see how they pay as a £5 service takes them about 15 minutes (2 men so thats 30 minutes man hours) minimum wage would cost owners £2.90 per wash in wages, plus materials/premises/bills/insurance etc.

yeah , make sure u got the insurance, cos too many people try it and say you've damaged their car their children their pets

Otherwise I appauld your business ideas

Learn the proper vatel skills and charge what you like valeting expensive cars taking care of scratches or dents and repairing light trim/tears and charge whatever you like !
If you spend £300 on your services the car will sell for more' etc
Try to enlist car dealers to your services.
Somthing to think about for the future
good luck

£4 a car?! Are you joking!! I paid £7 the other day to have it done by a machine... even that wasn't any good!! You won't make any profit at that price, particularly if you're going to go "mobile"... as others have said, think of petrol costs/insurance/machinery etc... £4 won't cover it! You'll be undercut by all the foreigners who use petrol forecourts/business units. No no no!

Eastern Europeans will undercut you................or just cut you for nicking their trade. lol

a bargain hunter,,,,have a look at the cleanitup forums, they have a valeting section as well as other cleaning business genre. Waterless car cleaning has been an idea tried by a few with great success. because you can do it in undercover shopping centre car parks while people shop....no water tanks required and cars can be cleaned in the parking space.

bad imo.

You never know if you have never tried...You could be making some money or if you don't you won't loose that much of investments.

So give it a go !!! You might make some money if you know how to advert correctly especially this is winter, people prefers paying £4 to get someone to clean their cars rather than cleaning it themselves

Perhaps in your local area, do a car defrost service for people at £4 so they can stay inside and getting warm up ==> Better than cleaning services at the moment

4 pound an hour just doesn't stack up....you will have down time traveling between customers and other time that it takes to run and market a business to factor in..

How many cars do you estimate doing a week?
How much are the business overheads going to be?
How much are you going to spend on marketing in order to reach your weekly cleaning target?
#20
Thanks everyone Loads of good advice!:D

if you advertise use full stops instead of exclamation marks to end your sentences.

what does the customer get for £4 or you revised basic price?

what will be your cleaning method?

You would need the permission of the golf club for that.

PS you haven't answered any of my questions.

so are you going to wait around for the people to finish their round before payment (about 4 hours)? I wouldnt pay some bloke money up front in a car park!

£4 per car is laughable. You do realise you'll have to pay tax & NI out of that.

really really bad idea

Was thinking jet wash, brush, rinse & wheel clean. Just quick, basic & cheap.

You can't go out fishing for business this way mate....you need to have customers make an appointment so you can do different areas on a rota bases that maximizes your time.

If you are jet washing then where are you getting your water supply from.

but you need to chamois a car after rinsing to get rid of all the streaks or it looks carp

The price should have been one of the last considerations. The fact you've thought of this first leads me to believe you've just seen how much car washes cost and thought "I can do it cheaper" with no consideration for costs.

Brush?

Like the broom with the soapy stuff running through it, use it at a jet wash to get off tough stuff that's stuck on........ I think.

OP I don't think it will be profitable at that price, also I never use the ones in asda car park when I go there, i'm not sure how many people would use it... Plus you'll have to wait around to get paid...
