Goodbye Vista

Before you ask, no, Microsoft haven't released a statement explaining how Vista will be removed from sale.. yet.

I've given it a good two months or so to impress me but recently it has just pi**ed me off no end.

With the release of XP SP3 yours truly is reverting back and making Vista the secondary OS, essentially making it a second class citizen.. or downgrading.

Join the revolution! Vista just isn't a significant improvement over its predecessor.

(laptop just about finished installing from slipstreamed SP3 CD, happy days!)

Feel free to comment or defend it, myself and a thousand others will happily shoot you down :).

With you all the way, never known an OS run so slow on my computer. Moving back to XP and installing linux on another partition too. Have been building PC's for quite a few years and have never had as many problems with XP as I have with Vista. Wish I had spent the money on beer instead!

ow what you're talking about.

Edit: Sorry that my message is in two parts, my operating system is playing up. :x

try borg edition or xp black
#14
had a couple of compatibility issues with vista which are now sorted and boot ups ok as ive removed a lot of the junk.

will stick with vista but cant really see where its improved on xp though:?
#15
is it just me or do a lot of items seem to have no right click context menus?
whilst i do seem to have got the few installs i have done stable easily enough it is slower than xp, and that was no flying machine to start with
Don't think the ui is friendly to either novice or experienced user either, so many places where the graphics blur with controls,, eg network and sharing center.
but ms have decreed its the future so we gotta get used to it..........
#16
i like my vista lol now most things are compatable with it
#17
Vista is change, people don't like change.

When you get used to it, you wonder where the fuss about it really was. Yes its more demanding than the previous OSes but, it does more too...
#18
ON my new PC I am running Vista, and its flyingg at the moment, very fast for me, might be down to high spec of Quad Core and 4gb Ram. And i think its alright.

Slight annoyance that Peerguardian2 doesnt support Vista yet. But switched to IpFilter.Dat with uTorrent.

Guys.....i will give you a good advice.... switch over to Mac at your next opportunity, it is amazing!

I have been building my own hardware since 1993....and believe me i have seen the entire transition from Dos to Windows 1.0 to 3.11 to 95 to 2000 to XP and even tried Vista! among them all.... Xp has been the best but to be honest with you nothing beats a Mac. Its the most stable OS one can work with. Surprisingly even the Microsoft softwares work smoother on it.

try it and believe me you will love it!

been running vista ultimate on 2 machines in my home network for over a year now with pretty much no problems well no more than you get with any operating system.

both run really smooth and quick so no complaints from me. vista rules!!!!!!!!!!

I find Vista's networking support extremely gimped, if you try to do anything at all remotely complex it has a heart attack.

What can be done in XP (and 2000) with ease can't be done properly in Vista. One of the reasons I've dropped it for now.

PG2 does run on Vista. You just need to allow it each time at boot up.

I know that feeling. I'm attempting to run Dungeon Keeper on Virtual PC. Might have to try DOS Box.

My biggest dislike is the fact there is no UP ARROW in file explorer to go up a folder level. Petty I know but very annoying if you have to navigate up a few levels.

The only workaround I have found is to press ALT and CURSOR UP ARROW!

Got vista at another address but can't check, can't you just customise the menu buttons like in XP right clicking or something?

Nope - they specifically removed the UP one level button for vista. its a major complaint by lots of users.

Heard the same.

Q3 or Q4 next year...

Which makes it the quickest transition from one OS to the other I believe (which would suggest MS know that they've made another ME).

Mate bought ME...haha laughing stock :-D so how will the updated operating system be like then, less demand on resources but still nice looking and 64bit only?

But you are given the whole menu structure of the location of the file, thus removing the need for an up arrow....?!

"To be honest there is only one conclusion to be made; Microsoft has really outdone themselves in delivering a brand new operating system that really excels in all the areas where Vista was sub-optimal. From my testing, discussions with friends and colleagues, and a review of the material out there on the web there seems to be no doubt whatsoever that that upgrade to XP is well worth the money. Microsoft can really pat themselves on the back for a job well done, delivering an operating system which is much faster and far more reliable than its predecessor. Anyone who thinks there are problems in the Microsoft Windows team need only point to this fantastic release and scoff loudly."

Yes you are but only works properly if you maximise explorer or have it set to a large frame size. No matter what I try, explorer always reverts to a quarter size frame when I open it.

And yes, I have tried the folder and search options but it never retains the settings for more than a day or two.

very buggy software but at least we all expect it ;-)

Once you get used to the wierd mouse acceleration, and search around the net to find the command to turn off the screen dimming (fine on a mobile phone, annoying on a 24" desktop). And don't the fact that there doesn't appear to be any keyboard shortcut to shut down or go to standby.

I've said it before; If windows 7 launches soon then there won't be time for a great many changes and it'll be much like vista - you can either have fast or good but not both.
