Hi all,

I am undecided about which phone to go for and am willing to listen to any of the experts :)

A little more info is the tariffs I am interested in so far are the

vodafone 12 month £28 for the omnia

T-mobile in the store they have told me the G1 will be cheaply available for free and the internet package will be availabe cheap as they are trying to top the iphone and x1/g1

Also t-mobile said the omnia would be £30 a month with internet as well!

I'm getting the G1 due to my interest in the software :)

I think I'd go for the Omnia, reckon it's the best one at the mo. Good review here: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/phones/Samsung-Omnia-i900.htm

The omnia looks the best

Google
( just looks like one of those phones from the pound shops that beep)

Htc ( stlish but just looks like the 360 chat pad with a screen)

Presume the £28 12 Mth Omnia on Vodaphone is post Quidco? - If not where have you seen it for this as have been looking at this myself.

Was the T-Mobile one a 12 month deal too? - May look at that if so (was this instore or online (if so where?)

Others I'm considering are HTC Touch Pro and Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. Also may look at some of the newer 8MP phones such as Sony C905, Samsung i8510 and have just seen a couple of new LG phones that might be of interest (although not looked for any reviews yet). KC910 8mp with full touchscreen and the KC780.

N96 looks ok but very expensive and tv tuner can't be used in this country anyway.

Not really looked at the G1 yet.

So far leaning towards Omnia as looks like the best value deal but I'm sure others will be priced more aggressively over the next few weeks.

Would be interested in any decent 12 month deals on any of the above if you find any.

The voda deal was post quidco!

The tmob deals were all 18month!

Have to admit agree with the comments on the g1 being hugly, x1 and touch pro will be on £45 a month tariffs so a bit pricey the omnia seems to be the pick of the bunch at the moment, free for 18months and free net seems fairly good!

To muddy the waters think the LG KC910 sounds quite good too - ReviewHere. Not sure on the operating system or sotware included but decent size/camera/video/Divx player with WIFI etc too.

I asked about the Omnia instore at Vodaphone and they indicated they might be flexible on knocking off £5 month/adding internet bundle - Probably equates to the value of quidco but might be a preference to some who want to go and buy in a shop! Might be worth a haggle anyway.

I was going to buy the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 when it came out, but I'm going to wait until Christmas as by then a few more phones will be out and they'll be fighting for Christmas sales.

Plus, I might be able to persuade someone else to buy it for me. :giggle:

Try adding HTC Touch HD to the list....... meant to be out in November.

As the Omnia has been out for a while, manged to get it for 18 months £23 with cashback on a Orange contract online. Liked Orange as free home broadband included.

However the LG 8MP phone looks just as good and more MP camera - haven't seen it for sale anywhere yet though

New Samsung M8800 Pixon out soon. Smaller than Omnia. Loses Windows Mobile and therefore things like Word and Excel.

Gains: 8 Megapixel. Nifty camera options. Can scroll through pictures by tilting phone! Faster to operate because it does not have to use WM. Flash memory slot in side (no need to remove battery etc).

I will wait for that!

I think u should boycott HTC phones, it seems company policy for them to cripple their devices with limited technology. X1 is made by HTC, i dont think the specs are mind blowing infact pretty much the norm. 3.2 megapixel cam? they seem to be following Apple's suit more strigently than we thought. I have a HTC Tytn II which i got a year ago, and i dont think any current windows mobile phone beats its specs in more than 1 or 2 department, which is kinda atrocious cause technology moves at a way faster speed than that. Companies seem to be adopting a policy where by they recycle phones give it a new look and resell it to us.

I'm gonna wait for the nvidia tegra chip based phones, now that is a technological advance.

I've asked VF for my PAC code and they offered me free Omnia (12 month contract) 600 mins unlimited txts, +free web bolton for £27 per month. I know I could get the Quidco deal without internet access for £23, but seems to be some confusion if quidco/VF are honouring the £150 cashback.

Originally VF only offered me 18month contract @ £35pm for 600 mins and 1000 txts no free bolton, till I told them I could get it cheaper via quidco and on 12 month contract. Also said it wasn't much of a deal someone who has been with them for several years. I've already cancelled one contract and got the O2 Simplicity sim only deal.

I'm not sure what to go for :?

Got the Omnia a couple of weeks ago and I think it's great.

I've updated to some of the latest ROM's and they seem to be ironing out the issues which people have complained about. Battery life is much better now which has been a common complaint.

I'm new to Windows Mobiles on the whole but this seems to be a great gadget to tinker around with and the guys making custom ROM's are only just getting started. Over the next month or so we should see some very impressive stuff.

How easy is it to update latest ROM's and carry out other types of updates/maintenance on the Omnia? With my luck it needs to be fool proof. Don't want to mess things up.

Cheers.

Its easy to do - best site for Roms.

However, make sure you follow the instructions - and importantly - take a note or the RADIO. Using different ones can mean missing calls.

NOTE - these ROMS are 100% legal.... in case someone gets the wrong idea!!!

Don't go with T-Mobile, whatever you do. Their data policies are rubbish - 0.73p per kilobyte, chargeable up to a maximum of £1 a day. £365 a year for what Three do for £60 and what Vodafone throw in for free. It seems odd that they'd be simultaneously so ahead of the game when it comes to interweb-powered handsets and yet so far behind when it comes to charging for web access. I guess it's all profit to them, though. Sucks.

Me by the way, I'm another one in the Sony X1 camp. That or the HTC Touch Pro. You can't browse the web properly on these phones with 320*240 screens.

I've had a Wizard, currently got a Hermes. Have played with both Omnia and Touch Pro (evaluating for my MD) and so far the Touch Pro gets my vote - but then I love the qwerty keyboards. My contract isn't up til March so hopefully I will have got my hands on a X1 by then as well...
