I bought 2 dysons for £111.95 each but on my credit card they took

08 JAN 2008 CARD PMNT 07JAN DEBENHAMS INTE £120.00
08 JAN 2008 CARD PMNT 07JAN DEBENHAMS INTE £135.00

Im on the phone to them NOW but she told me these are leeked codes

THEY WILL NOT HONOUR THEM!! DO NOT OPEN IT IF YOU WANT TO RETURN IT!

20% and 10% are BOTH not allowed to be used. (These was for EMPLOYEES ONLY)

Update : I contacted them and they said NO i would have to return it. I then said I have proof that you have taken my order and agreed at £111.95 she has now passed it to HEADOFFICE. I will update.

par for the course I'm afraid with Debenhams. Same with littlewoods.
#2
Damn, I ordered an £80 knife set with those codes! Can you return to store?
#3
I would have thought they could only take the amount you agreed to pay from your account, otherwise they are breaking the purchase contract they made with you.! I would take this further.

ok. i have them in a corner. I told them you send me a "Debenhams Order Update" which shows that item was sent and they agreed to the £111.95 so im going to dispute that with my credit card company (However i used a debit card) so if you used a credit card im sure you will win as they HAVE agreed to the payment

she is now talking to the supervisor when i said I will keep the items and dispute the extra as i have proof that it was £111.95

she was not happy lol the codes was for employee's ONLY lol

She has now sent this to headoffice.

Voting cold - should be in Misc.....

If you use a debit card you still have some cover if it is a visa debit card.
#7
Do you not have your order confirmation email from them?

Sure. But maybe no one will see it and they are taking more money then they should do, and some people may not notice.

Yeah. Thats what I said and she said once the order is made we send a email to confirm and I said thats right and you also sent a CONFIRM email to confirm price. :) then she was stuck lol. Waiting for HEADOFFICE but im sure that loads of people are being overcharged as she told me over 50000 people used the code.

Yeah as they taking more then they should have.

Why do these idiot retailers release codes when they know they will be leaked out? :giggle:

Please disregard this comment. This completely depends upon the terms of use of each card. You certainly do not have the same statutory rights after payment by debit card(visa or any other), than you do after payment by credit card.

Happened to me last year with these codes got email prices confirmed accepted with codes etc etc then they go and take the full amount . I got fobbed off by email and phone thats why i never used them this year.

This is the deal forum - this isn't a deal. Many people use the argument that if they post something in Misc then people won't see it. Unfortunately then this means the deal forum gets cluttered with tips.......

I know your intentions are in the right place but IMO this thread is in the wrong place

Absolutely agree - even some idiot was spouting off on here the other day that people with credit cards are idiots and should use debit cards. Made a lot of us chuckle at the lunacy of his arguments.

On the subject of this thread, i do think there should be some kind of voting system on this site for online retailers so we can see how good/bad they are. Bottom of the list for sure would be littlewoods followed by debenhams.

Cue comments by satisfied customers ;)

Yours, csiman (4 out of last 5 debenhams orders cancelled - OOS!)

I know I should have learnt my lesson after the first 3 orders but they came through with my 3rd order.

I called Debenhams (again) this afternoon and got them to confirm my order totals which they have and all is correct. No money has been taken from my account yet but some of my order has arrived. As they have confirmed my order totals by looking at their system I am doubtful that they will take more money than they should, but I am going to keep a watch on my accounts anyway.

One order was for about £75 for three coats. However, the only codes I used were free delivery and 10% off posted by theyiddo) as I placed my order on Friday and the fact that three codes could be used appeared on this site on Saturday. I only saved like £10 using the 10% code.

The only thing I have used the three codes on are two makeup products. Using the codes it came to £27 instead of £37.50 so not a major saving but a saving nonetheless! They have confirmed to me twice now that the order total is £27.

If Debenhams are stupid enough to release codes like that then they should be made to honour them. Ok, they were meant for employees only but how daft are they not to realise that they will be leaked out!
#15
just checked they charge me £9.60 instead of £8.64 for the pillows I bought! not really a big deal since it's still a bargain, think i'll keep them regardless.

I can't shop with this company they are unprofessional. They have taken my money, sent me conformation e-mail stating item has been dispatched only for me to find out 9 days later item was never in stock. But yet this low life company sat on my money for 20 days.:x

Customer services are really bad. I just DON"T shop with them and tell friends and family to do the same.

Hi
I have spoken to trading standards about this and they are stating that they should honour this. It is up to them to make sure they provide the information to illustrate what the voucher T&C's are. If they are not willing to accept it then measure should be put in place to prevent it. This is just like the Hamleys incident last year who were made to cough up.
Their advice was to speak to talk to the supplier and push hard, failing that ring your local trading standards. If enough people complain then they will have no option but to investigate it as a nationwide incident.
Hope this helps.

Just checked my bank account again. My bank account has been charged for two of the coats (as one has not been dispatched yet) and the amount charged is correct. It is £44 something for the two and then I am awaiting one more coat. If I add the cost of the coat I am waiting for to the money already taken, it equals the correct amount so no extra money has been taken from my account (not yet anyway)

However, no money has been taken for the makeup products where I used the three codes but they were not ordered until Saturday so the money will probably come out within the next 48 hours. If they do take more money then I will contact them as I always thought that a company could not take more money without informing you first, at least giving you a chance to cancel the order!

If you purchased online from Debenhams then you have to return to them and not able to take to a store. I tried to do this last year but Debenhams online is a contractor and not actually Debenhams themselves if you get my drift, so it has to go back to the place you got it from.

What makes me laugh is all the people that voted hot in the 20% 10 % free delivery thread and saying things like thanks saved myself £78 etc etc and debenhams will not cancel the codes blah blah i hate to say it but i told you so.
#22
I had the same problem with la-redoute that was posted here..ordered said item phoned 10 days later to be told out of stock then 2 days later received an email stating codes were wrong....thankfully they had not taken any monies from my acct, then there was the person that posted regarding a free dora backpack with 4 books ..never arrived but received a nice bill for £8.69 from them.

That is why I am glad that I did not spend a huge amount on there with those codes. If they do take more money from my account I will obviously fight it as its not right (they should at least contact the customers to give them the chance to cancel their orders) but at least if they do take more it would only be about £10. Some people bought alot of items from Debenhams and spent a lot of money and used those codes. They are going to be paying out alot more than they had anticipated.
#24
No wonder Debenhams share price has dropped so much if this is how they treat people!!!
IF they produce staff codes they should have another layer of security like an employee number
Im not agreeing with code abuse but treat customers with respect!!
#25
Yep same has happened to me, as i placed my orders separately i notice some have had the 10% discount applied and others the 20% applied which is strange there seems to be no consistancy any how just been checking through my emails from them and found this

This is not order confirmation or order acceptance by us. Unless we have notified you that we do not accept your order or you have cancelled it, order acceptance and the completion of the contract between you and us will take place on the despatch to you by us of the order invoice which takes place as your product is shipped from the warehouse.
#26

So why are you moaning about using codes you shouldn't be and when you get sussed your all upset, don't give me all that mumbo jumbo about trading standards and consumer law, why would there be any T&C for using the codes to consumers when they are for employees only.

Nevermind all that 'confirmation email' bollox, a contract is ONLY formed when the dealer takes your money from your account, under normal circumstances, but it doesn't cover using discount codes you shouldn't be.

If you get away with it, fine, if you don't, tough, you shouldn't have been using the codes in the first place, period.

This is from their small print on my "Thank you for your order" e-mail from Debenhams:

"If you wish to cancel your order, you have 7 working days after you receive your goods to give us written notice of cancellation. If your cancellation is received after the items have been despatched, our Customer Services department can arrange for a courier to collect them at no additional charge to yourself. Please contact them at [email protected]">[email protected] quoting the Order Number above, your house number and postcode." ((My underlining))

I dont think its so much about that, its more the fact that they have taken more than was stated on the confirmation email without contacting us for permission first! I just hope it doesnt take somebodys bank or credit card overdrawn and they end up with charges.
They cannot take more than we have agreed to surely!
#29
I have just checked my giftcard balance as I paid with that and they have not honoured the 10% discount but honoured the 20%. The email confirming my order accepted both codes. They should at least tell us they have taken more than was stated in the email order confirmation . I bet many people wont even realise. Thanks for bringing it to my attention:)

Its nothing to do about the fact the codes are not being honour in most cases, its that Debenhams have taken more money without warning or permission. I cannot believe that they can take more money than you have agreed to without informing you first. They least they could have done is contact each customer (via phone or email or something) who has used the codes and informing them that the codes were not for their use and therefore not honoured and give the customer the option to cancel or just pay the full price.
#32
I have just checked my card and it looks like the same has happened to me looks like the they have only honoured the 20% code. :x

I have to agree with this.

It is true that people may not have the right to use such codes. But debenhams/littlewoods can't expect people to know right away that a discount code is "only for employe" or "certain costumers" when they see one?

They should (or MUST) make the system to refuse discount codes if they are being used not by the intended costumers. They have the resources (people, fund and knowledge) to do so.

These companies cannot just let the codes go trhough, give the costumer the discounted price and then later take the full price. It's just like a trap :-D

Let's all go up Oxford Street and start a picket outside Debenham's!!!!!!

CODES DON'T WORK!
CODES DON'T WORK!
EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NOT MEANT FOR US PERSONALLY AS PER T&Cs
CODES DON'T WORK!

Phew, got me going for a minute! I spent £900 last week on a table & chairs and saved about £250 off that with the codes, wouldn't have gone for it otherwise as Debenhams are usually overpriced on most stuff. Just checked my account and they have only taken £650 out, so looks like it went through
#36
May I just point out that the original posts re these codes never stated they were for employees only. That's why so many people now get caught out and that's why they (rightfully imho) complain.
#37
i tried a code with Littlewoods in August last year & used it to buy XBoxLive with code should have cost £22 but they charged me £40 so I called them & they said that the code wasn't available to me.

I just said that I'd only authorised them to take £22 from my card & that they were not legally allowed to take any more without my permission... whether this is true or not I dont know but they refunded the £18 that day.
#38
If any retailer does not want to honour codes or discounts, then theres not much you can do and you cant blame them really sometimes. The scary thing with this deal is, instead of canceling the orders like they should have done at the discounted price agreed on the payment page they have went ahead and charged customers more. For a major retailer to do this is quite scary and they will be liable to refund the difference.

If you came into my shop and I sold you an item priced at £100 on sale and didnt process the payment till the next day when the sale/agreed price went up and you were charged even 1p more then I would be in trouble

Surly they knew the codes where leaked before dispatch? either that or they now have 50,000 staff...It was easy for them to cancel all orders but they would of lost a hell of a lot of business 50,000 orders in fact....
