Got a job, Now need a 1st car! What one?

I got offered a job last week, problem is its 30 miles away so need a car. I have my test on tuesday so hoping i will pass!

Only problem is i have not a lot of knowledge on cars.

I have 4 years no claims on my bike and some insurers accept that so im trying to get a 1.4 i think, instead of the normal 1.1L etc that everyone gets.

What car would be really cheap to run? As for the 1st six months or so i will be doing the 60 mile round trip a day.

Was thinking a quite big car as im 6ft 4 and dont really fancy a corsa or a little car.

I have about £2.5k to spend on the car and insurance (not a lot i know)

I wouldn't bother paying insurance up front, spend more on the car, and split the cost of insurance over 10 months. I think they go on 10 months.
You should pick up an astra or something for that much, several of my friends are lanky streaks, and a few have astras!
Good luck.

Good luck with the test, but why not stick with the bike for commuting :)

I'm 6'5" and although haven't got one now I used to have a Corsa and there was plenty of room in it.

Bikes no claim dont offer much discount im afraid, but tell them about it when you ring them, ive found that direct line offer the cheapest quote around. Fiesta's are excelent cars :whistling: Good luck with your test, got mine next month :)

Heave a look here for insurance group listings.

I rang direct line,

With my bikes no claims, breakdown, hire car, legal cover, £400 excess,

1.4L Golf, £957

Is that good?

Tried the company i had my bike insurance with, they offered me it at £1712 including my no claims!!

Looks like direct line is a good bet.

dont get a golf, too common.

Try the elephant/admiral companies. They came out with the cheapest quote for me in my saxo (badass i know) and then i wrote that off. This yeah they managed to be cheaper even with my write off.

heres a few: Fiat punto or the Grande version, Renault clio, VW Golf or Polo, Seat Ibiza, Ford Fiesta,

What car would give the best MPG?
#16
hmm I dont no for sure but your best bet would be www.parkers.co.uk has a full detailed report on each car or any other car you like.:)
#17
1.5dci in a Clio will give you HUGE mpg - we used to get 70mpg on a motorway run easily
#18
From what I remember the astra is loaded insurance wise, as its so easy to pinch, and is very popular with the TWOK crowd.
#19
im 6"5 and i fit in a punto fine, a corso or sumthin would be good
