Got a problem watching movies + music on new Dell Laptop Inspiron

Got my daughter a laptop for chrimbo but she's experiencing sound problems when she is listening to music from a disc, it starts to skip and jump. Listening to music that has been ripped to the HD is ok and YouTube and other sites seem to be ok too.

Now we have another problem in that when she puts in an original DVD disc you can hear it start up and then you just get circle timer popping up every second or so, going into my computer it shows no disc is in the drive?

Besides the MS updates i have also put on the CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack and Divx 7 pack.

The laptop is running Win7 Home premium.

thx for any help!

Right i've dl'd as many updates as i can find and here's the problem, well first off music seems to be ok now but it's still the movies that won't work properly. Tried opening up a film with VLC and got some error so went back to Power DVD which came with the lappy, now some DVD's work and some don't, it's not like they are scratched ect because the Friends DVD boxset and various other DVD's will not work, you can hear the drive trying to click into action but it just won't have it.

Some Nigel Movies work spot on but seems to be the originals that are the problem (some originals do work though).

codec problem then I guess.

download this

It's a huge directory of codecs (xvid)

What was the error with vlc? I installed it on a friends pc and it played 2 dvd's straight away with no hassle.

I'll have a look when i can shift her off Facebook! i've never ever had problems with my PC and that's why these problems are virgin to me, bang a codec on and i'm away!

Thx again fae!

Tried that codec pack and those friends dvd's just won't start up, i think it's a drive problem because you can hear it clicking trying it's best to load up the film.

Might get onto Dell.

Try deleting the driver for the dvd drive and rebooting the laptop.

If that doesn't work then do get onto dell

Yeah was actually in the process of doing that, maybe even deleting the drive itself and allowing Windows to re-install it after rebooting.

thx fae :santa:

God this lappy gets worse, she's started watching Eastenders on the iPlayer through IE and everything was ok and then the sound went off, she then started Chrome up and was going to watch a clip on YouTube and it crashed with an error box saying the plug in has stopped working!
