I got a copy for gt5 for the ps3, I just decided to open it and play it.

I had to do 2 updates on the ps3 and finally got to play the game after about 35 minutes.

Loaded the game up and then I got a pop-up, an update is available for this game, I update and its 608mb to download, been around 15 minutes and its on 59%.

I dont feel like playing the game now, I might go dig out the sega megadrive, I never had this problem with that console. Same thing happens everytime I play a game.

Why is this?

thanks.

a) your connection sucks so updates take hours
b) you don't play the games often enough, you notice updates less if you play the games every day

to solve this play the games offline, disabled the internet connection on your ps3 and you wont get any updates

It was released before it was properly completed. Day one purchasers of GT5 were basically beta testers, and they're amending the game as it goes along.

Was the game worth it though in the end?

The quick answer is ps3 update platform is flawed and sucks.

The reason so many people get fed up with that system and buy something else or never use it.

Really? I take it you don't have many games, or play them much.

I agree with him, my 360 updates real fast, PS3 updates are so slow >.>

Or maybe the games makers are trying to make your game play experience better, by removing any bugs, improving the game or just giving you new content?

I had to do these updates too but didn't have any problems with speed. I know some people do though. Polyphony Digital has added a lot to the game since launch but yeah it must be frustrating to have to download all 3 (or is it 4) patches since release especially if your connections slow.

The game is good and I love it on a wheel but it's not 5 years in the making good. I have no idea what they spent 5 years on either as 800+ of the cars are just imported from GT4 (and some look aweful) and only 200 were made from scratch. Still keep at it and should be good to go soon.

Regarding update speeds my mate always had massively slow downloads from PSN and yet I rarely do. Not sure what causes it but could be router settings. I think PSN does throttle connections to limit speed but they don't limit it to a slow speed it's a reasonable speed.

Or maybe they should have coded their routines better in the first instance. Rarely do you get free DLC without somewhere down the line it being used to sweeten any price increase or DLC that should be free but is being charged for. Multiply this with hundreds of pounds worth of PSN purchases installed to HDD needing to be updated via the flawed platform (PSN+ only works for so many games)

Worst are forced installs to be then told to get latest version or when you buy a psn game that is 800 meg to download it then start to be told to update to v1.01 another 800 meg, laughable and many megs later you still cannot play the game as time has passed and your pretty bored of the whole waiting to play thing. The advice to remove internet connection is not valid as online games require it.

There is no justification for how poor the mechanism to update the games platform is on the ps3

Sony need to address it.
