On March 28 the Grand Canyon Skywalk (the worlds highest manmade structure -- by more than 2,300 feet!) will open to the public. The glass, 70-foot long, open-air Skywalk is suspended 4,000 feet above the canyon floor, providing visitors with a staggering 720-degree view.
The Skywalk is operated by the Hualapai Tribe, which owns and protects more than one million acres of land throughout the Grand Canyons western rim. During construction of the Skywalk, architects and engineers were concerned not only with safety, but also with creating a structure that would balance well with its natural surroundings and protect the values held by the Hualapai. As a result, the structure can support the weight of 71 fully loaded 747 airplanes (thats a whopping 71 million pounds!), withstand winds up to 100 miles per hour and survive a magnitude 8.0 earthquake.
would you try this out, makes me feel sick thinking about it.
