Grand Theft Auto V Delayed on PC!

FantasyDeals Avatar
2y, 6d agoPosted 2 years, 6 days ago
From Rockstar Newswire :
"Our apologies for the slight shift in the date but the game requires a few extra weeks of testing and polish to make it as good as can be," Rockstar writes on their newswire. "Moving a release date is never a decision we take lightly and is a choice we make only when we know it is in the best interests of the game and our fans. Thanks everyone for your understanding and we assure you these few extra weeks will be worth it when the game does arrive in March."

Rockstar has delayed the upcoming PC port of Grand Theft Auto V to March 24.

I kinda expected this. R* have joined my my list of never-buy publishers and developers now, along with Ubisoft and EA
But they don't owe you anything!
I never said they did. I'm a consumer and I choose to no longer consume their products. If enough people did the same they would actually work for the consumer instead of the shareholder.
By delaying the product they are clearly showing they care about the consumer and not the shareholder.

People would be quick to grumble if they released a glitchy bug-fest, and they grumble if it gets delayed. Damned if they do; damned if they don't.oO

Just saying, I'm not moaning about it being delayed, I'd rather Rockstar spend as long as they want and have a great game rather them, as you say, release a glitch bug-fest. :D

The glitches are what makes this game great.

That's a little harsh. Would you rather have an early release and a broken game or a working game and a delayed release?

That's the same with Skyrim. Experiencing a glitch where a mounted soldier is doing somersaults in his saddle while his horse repeatedly runs into a tree? Laugh it off, and carry on.:D

I admire people who stand by their principles.
Too many games now are released broken (& known to be broken) and it is about time the consumer said "No I won't be buying your products until they are working".

However I can't say that I would put R* into that category but to each their own.

An early release? Cmon now, let's stop being silly. R* have made this decision based entirely on financial reasons. They promised PC users a version of GTAV a long time ago and they have been putting it off with rubbish excuses ever since. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpzWlHasjSM

The fact is R* make more money by milking the console market- however on this occasion it has been a double bonanza! They hit the 360/PS3 market in 2013, Xbone/PS4 in 2014 and they know they'll still pick up a bunch of sales in 2015 from the PC market as people upgrade for a 2nd/3rd time. That's why they're offering loyalty bonuses and delaying the release... for more £$££$! R* have more than enough manpower and resources to launch the PC version before March but they are choosing not to. If you think this is for the benefit of the consumer then sure, go ahead and buy it like all the other sheep- and that is why R*, EA, Ubisoft and rest will continue to get away with such tactics.

I'm a huge fan of the series and have played one version or another for 18 years.. of course I'm upset.

Don't be daft, the only people who would buy the game 3 times are a handful of sad fanboys whose impact wouldn't come close to making up the money they will have lost by missing xmas 2014.

I read this somewhere:
"Everyone, this might just be a money move by Rockstar. Their fiscal year ends in March (31), what a better way to cap off 2014 than with a little bump and then have a nice start to 2015. All talk aside of "polishing/testing". I posted this on the news thread at Rockstar and they took it down within 5 minutes. That was over an hour a go and I am still not allowed to post again."

And can you blame em? Due to piracy, they barely make as much on the PC compared to consoles. Either it's coming out, or it's not, they could have easily scrapped the PC version, but at least it's still coming out. I've been waiting eons for the PC version, but I won't let it affect my life, heck, i'd rather have GTA V in 2018 than a game like Assassins Creed Unity now.

Well Grand Theft Auto was the best open world game of 2013! The only reason people will now buy it for PC is for the mods. :D Have a good one JC2!

Console games are rendered to much higher resolutions. Of course a PC game is going to take longer to develop and to do it properly. It requires higher detailed artwork. I doubt a large open world game like GTA would take 5 mins to update.

I work for a software company and trust me rushing products to market just because someone set a date isn't always the best thing to do.

They likely aren't working on bugs with the game, they are probably just beefing up their crappy DRM software. F**king Social Club is the bane of Rockstar Studios. Kill it with fire I say.

GTA V for PC will also feature a new editing tool called the Rockstar Editor. This will give players a "full suite" of tools that they can use to create and publishing clips to the Rockstar Social Club and YouTube.

It's like.. No.. Thanks.. GTFO.. We already have tools provided by ATi and Nvidia that do our recording (Shadowplay and Raptr), they do it at a hardware level so it makes less impact on the systems overall performance (anywhere from 10fps to 70fps gains compared to normal recording software). Why would we need to use their crappy software to do something we have been doing for 10+ years without them and the software they provide will undoubtedly do it a hell of a lot worse than what we already have.

A$$hats.

Ps. I will still buy the game, but you can blow a whale if you think that I am suppose to somehow accept, like and admire Rockstar for the amount of delays they have put on the PC release. It is beyond a joke, but most media sites pander to consoles nowadays, so it isn't like anyone is going to stick it to them and cause a fuss.

Oh and my hate isn't just because of this release, Rockstar have a history/Social Club has a history, with PC gamers that is.. A really, really bad history. From DRM, to patches, to games just flat out not working, and so on. Basically anything they could of done wrong, they have done wrong and continue to do so, they show no signs of actually caring about PC gamers whatsoever. It is very strange, but whatever, I will still buy their game, I will still support the game devs who work so hard on the game, writing and building the stories and so on - but the guys who do the marketing, publishing, DRM and other software, screw those guys.

The last thing bloated games need is more bloat. I'm not sure about the built in recording system though, it might be useful for people that aren't aware of other methods and just don't bother reading about it. As long as I'm not distracted and prompted about useless things all the time while playing the game It will be good.

For sure, I am still secretly hoping that it turns out amazing. But I am simply not allowing myself to get pumped for it. Although, I was excited last week when talking to a few mates about it coming soon.. D'oh, look how that turned out.

I think that is Rockstars biggest issue. Bloatware. They pile so much on it gets crazy, then it conflicts and doesn't work right so they spend 90% of their time bug fixing the crappy bloatware and DRM instead of fixing really game breaking bugs in the main game, the thing you actually paid for.

I wish there was a definitive guide to all the mistakes and crap they have done on the PC over the years, it really isn't a common thing, having millions of gamers love and hate the same company at the same time. The sad thing is, PC gamers get to see how great it is on the console, we get to hear about it, read about it.. Then when it finally does turn up on PC.. What the hell are we going to get?

I am waiting for the reviews and based off of that, I will be buying or waiting for the first patch release date haha.

Let's just hope we can turn off that recording feature. If it is constantly recording gameplay in the background while running, with no way to turn it off (kind of like the Xbox One).. Aww man, I will flip my lid haha

Looking at the system requirements you wouldn't think so. It looks very well optimized based on the specifications needed (compared to other games).
We will see. If it's optimized like GTA IV it goes straight in the bin. If like May Payne 3, we have a winner.
