Is Great Britain teamed up with Northern Ireland?

jay2011jay2011

I just wanted to know this because Ireland is first in the canoeing event. Looked on the app and wiki but it doesn't make it very clear. If anyone could help me it would be very appreciated.
Thanks,

Team GB is the brand name used since 1999 by the British Olympic Association and British Paralympic Association for their Great Britain and Northern Ireland

    That is republic of ireland

    I was thinking this earlier.

We are listed as "Great Britain and Northern Ireland" on the BBC site, which is the United Kingdom. So why not team UK?

Because Team GB sounds better than Team UK

    No It's not.

    England/Scotland/Wales - Great Britain

Great Britain + Northern Ireland is UK.

Got a passport? Look on the front it will say "the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland"

No it's not. UK is Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. GB is Scotland, England and Wales. Therefore you were wrong adamsxi.

The team should be called Team UK not Team GB but Team GB sounds better. I bet Northern Ireland are quite annoyed at the Olympic Chairman for naming it Team GB and not Team UK.

It is Great Britain and northern Ireland. But why did it not say this on the country name sign on Friday night. It just said Great Britain.
And yes it really should be team UK as that is what it is. Look at all the countries on Friday night no one has even heard of and a piece of the UK isn't even mentioned.

I think Northern Ireland has been lumped in with the Ireland team... I think I read somewhere that in the Ireland parade there were like 14 from NI.

*Edit* I think there's actually some from NI in both the GB and Ireland teams.

Edited By: DragonChris on Aug 01, 2012 21:12: Glory, glory Northern Ireland!
