Growing Pains

Hissy MissHissy Miss

Don't suppose anyone here has ever suffered from growing pains? I must admit, I always thought it was a but of a myth but I'm told it's what my son is suffering from. He wakes up screaming in excruciating pain through the night but never seems to have any bother through the day.

I just never imagined growing pains to be so painfull and when I search online for people with similar stories, I only tend to read about it being a misdiagnosis. Don't suppose anyone here as any personal experience of it?

I don't know whether it was growing pains, but i used to wake up at night and my legs were killing me, i had to get my mum to rub them gently until i fell back asleep, i don't get them now though, So it could have been the mythical growing pains

You could be on to something, I'm only 5ft 2 and never had any. I'm just trying to judge the level of pain as it does seem a bit heavy at times. Does your son ever cry with the pain?

    How old is your son?

Not so much a myth, more like they haven't got a clue what's causing it so blame it on a generic 'growing pain'. Cured by painkillers no doubt.

My sons is 7 so he's the right age for it. Ah well, I'll just accept that it's growing pains and be glad. It could be worse.

My daughter is 7 and gets them regular. Usually just before she has a growth spurt.

You need to take "him" to see a doctor, and quick.

He sure is and a size 10 in his trainers. Am 5ft 11 and his dad is 6ft 4 so knew he was going to be tall. He is also a very handsome and well behaved young man :)

My boys are going to be tall too - 6 foot 8 dad and i'm 5'9' :-)

both my girls suffered really bad in their shins and thighs, not sure how active your son is but my two hate sport and going out, very geeky kids I have, did some online searching and found it could be to a lacking Vit D, so for past cpl of years have made sure the have a multi vitamin every day and they have not suffered since. they are 16 now so I guess most of ther growing has slowed down, give it a try, cant do any harm.

My boys have all had them, generally in thier legs at night... Ages between 4 and 10. We found rubbing "magic cream" (E45 or moisturiser) on helped no end.

Where is he having the pains? In his joints, muscles or does he say his bones?

I've had joint pains since about 10 and I was always told it was growing pains.
The pains never went away, and at about the age of 30 was diagnosed with hypermobility joint syndrome (loose joints).

I had osgood schlatters and growing pains although my brother had the growing pains worse than I did, he used to frequently scream out in pain in the night. It was excruciating, a tip is a cool pack or frozen peas - do not rub the sore parts.
I have stretch marks due to growing so fast, feint now but I even have random ones on my knees lol
My brother and I grew up nice and tall in the end, no lasting effects.
