Think they must come out at night or something as my partner came down this morning and reckons he killed around 40/50, then about half an hour ago i came down and got about 30, its just a nightmare and i dont like to let my little one crawl around in here now. What can we do, as its really stressing me out now, i hate any creepy crawlies!

there must be a nest somewhere close by. There are powders, sprays and mild poison boxes you can get depending on the volume you are seeing. Places like B&Q will have these items in stock.

If you're seeing 30-50 then whereever they are concentrated is where to start looking for the nest I'd say. :)

Try and see where they are coming in, too?

Then as well as ant powder/spray etc -- get the hubby to fill in any gaps letting the little critters in!!!

Good luck - had the same problem last year :x

they just seem to be scattered around everywhere in the living room, we've siliconed all round the front door, although we have laminate flooring so not sure if they are maybe getting in underneath it?

crazy ppl saying poison when u have a small child >_< first find the holes they come in and scented talcum powder them, then draw a line accross where you think they might be coming into the room and pour some vinegar down. Seriously vinegar is the best safe way to get rid of them :)

hmm there is supposed to be a homemade recipe for ants involving some sugar - some ants take it back to the nest and they all scoff it dying.
...
...

Ant Killer Recipe
1 teaspoon boric Acid/borax
6 tablespoons sugar
2 cups hot water
Mix ingredients and pour over cotton wool
Put mixture in containers with lids and poke holes about 1/8 inch up from the bottom.

you may attract more ants initially due to the sugar but should kill them off due to the borax
(not safe for animals/people to eat btw incase you wondered :) )
read they dont like cinnamon either :)

Bait traps are the best, they carry the poison back and kill the nest. Especially important if they're emperor ants as they know when they are being poisoned and split the nest into multiple colonies

This is maybe a bad idea, but I once accidently discovered that masking tape can obliterate whole families of woodlice if they get onto its sticky side. I guess maybe the means with which you could apply it would be to get a decent thickness roll from Homebase or wherever, and peel one long strip withthe sticky side up about an inch from the wall, and twostrips sticky side down to hold it tight to the floor. The little ants should crawl over and hopefully stick to the central strip, and die before not long. I guess it won't be much fun applying this around your room, and they might be too light for their legs to stick, but if it works, it should in theory grant your floor an impenetrable barrier, and all without risking poisoning yourself or your kids.

Lift the Carpet, look for any cracks in the floor or wall, thats how they are getting in. you sellotape to close the cracks to divert them

get an anteater ... ?

if you want to find where they are coming from leave an open can of coke out and eventually you will see them move in a line to the can and then to nest and you can track them that way. Then when you know where they are coming from put nippon in the coke and powder in the nest and leave til they are no longer making their way to the can, you'll have got the beggers then :thumbsup:

Washing up liquid kills them but not the nest, my personal favourite though is waging a war against the red ants using my black ant buddies, I help them out with my magnify glass

bowl with orange juice in it and a bit of string hanging over the side ,
