GSD-german shepherd?

afaik theres not much benefit other than knowing the family (being able to ask of past medical issues etc, although many have hip and digestion problems so prob not so important with them) and bragging rights....my parents bought my childhood dog from a breeder as they were very well known in 'them kinda circles' and did give great advice for the life of the dog. Although my dog was thoroughbred, and had perfect markings etc we never entered her into competitions, she was a family dog and that was all. So there may be other perks like the support/guidance of the breeder after the sale but I would guess not all breeders are like that.

I do hope you will be a responsible dog owner & clear up your dog's Doo Doo's :whistling:

Why buy from a 'dealer' when the rescue homes are full of dogs looking for new owners?

cheers yes a german shepherd rep on its way

no worries....I know youll be able to find this out with a quick google but when you go to visit the pups watch their back end when they walk....apparently they shouldnt twist, the hips should stay steady and the legs should then move back and forth freely. If they twist their hips when they walk its meant to show the hips will go pretty fast (major probs with german shepherds) was told this by a breeder (that I knew, not one we bought a dog off).

also the last GSD in my family (my uncles) had very serious digestive issues (vet said theyre more prone than most pedigree's to this) and ended up with the dog on very expensive tablets, the tablets worked out about £1.50 each, but because of the size of the dog she was on 6/day. Luckily she was insured....might be worth looking into insurance prices

When buying any dog it really pays to do your homework first as it saves an awful lot of heartache in the future, try and find out as much as you can about the breed and what to expect. I would never buy from an advert in the paper etc. Most reputable breeders do not sell their pups this way. Make sure all health checks and hip scores are done. We waited ages for the right pup, we had to put our name down before they were even born. Don't be fooled into thinking the amount you pay guarantees a good dog, puppy farmers and commercial breeders can also charge a high price.
A good breeder will also want to know alot about you and your family and how you intend to care for the dog and working patterns etc.
There is a forum here just for GSD's, it may be worth a look.

Good luck.
