GTA Iv ... I'm so rubbish. Help me please!!!

Hey,

I'm struggling at this game big time. Went around to a friends last week and saw them playing it and decided I wanted to buy and play it. Not usually my kind of game.

I get the car bit. The driving around and the controls etc. But, I keep losing every punch up I'm in. I just got knocked out to the internet cafe geek.

How do I win in a simple punch up? What should I be doing, that I'm doing soooo wrong?

when you fight are you locking on to your opponent using i think r2 or r1
#3
don't worry, it's overrated.

simply about timing dude, you cant just button bash, lock on with left trigger, hold it so you stay locked on, then move close to the guy you want to bash, press punch, (when you whack anyone they move back, so move closer then punch again,) button bashing will make you miss and allow him to punch you inbetween your swings that are missing.

sorry i meant L2 or L1

To counter press a (360) or x (ps3) just before they throw their punch, niko will bend, then you can throw your own punch.
#7
LT is Target Lock On. But that still doesn't have much effect. I keep punching, and then even though I'm still pressing like mad it waits AGES between each punch.

Think this says it all...I'm very much button bashing. Right, off to try again.

Will leave some rep for you helpful people when I've finished getting beaten up...:whistling:

totally. people shoot you down when you say this.... i bought mine on day of release, played it 3 or 4 times now. the game hasn't evolved. yes, the graphics/sound/presentation is better, but there's not much here that we didn't see in vice city or San Andreas. Disappointed? Crestfallen is more like it..

i keep going back to team fortress 2, i love it.

I think the close combat is horrendous, I just shoot people instead...much easier and the general gun combat is much improved over San Andreas although still quirky at times.

Actually I think it's reasonable to say the game has de-evolved since San Andreas, in that game it felt like you could do anything pretty much - the immense feeling of freedom worked extremely well.

With GTA 4 it's very much a step back, it's a city now rather than a massive map with multiple cities and towns, you can't do ambulance or fire missions, you can't buy property etc. It all feels the complete opposite as I feel like I'm being constantly restricted in what I want to do.

I really like the new driving model though plus I much prefer the gun combat which has kept me playing it.

also no control over your character, ie, fitness, skills etc. still. i'm liking it, it's GTA at the end of..

Yeah, that's very true as well - I thought that mechanic worked extremely well in San Andreas as it gave you good reason to spend more time in the sandbox aspect of the game as you were rewarded with better stats. There was such a noticeable difference from the Carl you start off with to the one you build up you can sprint forever, kill people with one punch, drive perfectly (well better anyway!) etc. I was pretty gutted when I found that aspect was gone, also I think the clothes are really the only aspect you can customise on Nicho? It was always funny seeing someone else playing San Andreas because everyone's version of him was different, some went for a bare chest plastered with tattoos, a guy at work went for the pimp look, my version of him was a huge muscly guy modelled after Mr T.

I'm hoping saints row 2 hasn't gone backwards like gta4 has done. I'm really looking forward to sr2.

lol that **** sucked hard, working out was more of a chore than an actual game, mandatory button bashing pfft

saints row has the right idea you can make your character look like exactly what you want with no bs

sorry guys, didn't mean to be too negative, just deflated after spending £50 and waiting, like FOREVER.... Just an anti-climax i guess. I was expecting a fillet steak with peppercorn sauce and all the trimmings, and all I got was a ribeye...
#19
Can understand your disappointment, I picked up the game with pretty low expectations as I had a good idea of what I was getting - I do enjoy the driving though so that's made it worthwhile enough for me.

In one of the mini missions, I accidentally blew the head off of that depressed black dewds ex girlfriends new biker boyfriend. Does that mean I can't complete it 100%?
