Ok so im getting a hdtv next month and im feeling my choices restricted to buying off johnlewis because of the 5 years guaranteethey offer
But they dnt seem to have a very good selection anymore

Does anyone know any other reputable companies that offer either a 3 or 5 year gurantee with the tvs as im very unlucky and my tv would probably break days after the 12months warranty ran out

Daniel

p.s i was thinking of getting a samsung but would toshiba/panasonic be better?

I don't know anything really about tvs,but if you do go to John Lewis, and you find it a bit pricey try their price match, takes a while to get answers you want to hear but we got it sorted over phone and they took £400 to price match off our tv. We wanted J.L cos of the 5 yr warranty too,tvs r dear 2 repair.

Hi

I got a Sony LCD from www.robertwhyte.co.uk

They are based in Glasgow and i recommend you give them a go as they have good offers on and normally offer free 5yr warranty through Domestic and General.

He means that British law states that your TV or any other product should work for a reasonable amount of time as regards for the money you paid for it. In a nutshell, it doesnt matter if you have a gurantee or not, under the consumer goods act they have to replace it, if its faulty within a reasonable time scale.

In this country you have 6 years to make a claim against a retailer for goods such as your TV. Only a fool pays £200-300 for an additional unnecessary warranty. Most do not like you trying this and will make it difficult, but they do that when you pay for the warranty anyhow so it makes no difference. The law is on your side.

You get what you pay for is the old adage, Sammys are good tv's with lots of extras, Panasonics are better quality. Only you can decide, and base it on the picture of real tv, not a blu ray disc in store. If they cannot connect to terrestial tv walk away and go somewhere else.

Very true. My mate's TV just broke down after 13 months and Curry's didn't want anything to do with it cos it was out of warranty. So he phoned whatever company made the TV (can't remember, might have been Panasonic) and they arranged to pick it up, fix it and return it to him free of charge

Under the 'Sale of goods act', Curry's are obligated to do something about it, not Panasonic.

It is often easier to deal with the manufacturer directly, but only because the retailers fob people off, and most consumers are ignorant of the law.

No I did it all over the phone, think with Bluewater store but I may got phoned up other times by another store, they do take a while to get back to you though,1st time they wouldn't price match with whoever and so I give over another place I found it cheap which was Robert White or something in Glasgow and they said ok we match their price of £1600.
