Guess how many hits this site gets on a daily basis.
Is there any way of finding this out ?
Maybe one of the mods can find out ?
Whoever gets closest wins a bag of crisps !!!!

Here's my guess, if we can use today as an example (12-06-07)

1.4 million and 3 - 1,400,003

probably miles away but would be interesting to know.

Yeah there is a way of finding out the stats, I'm just trying to dig out a link now.

Would be interesting to know the amount of unique hits!

Hits isn't a very relevant statistic, loading one page could result in 100 hits. Unfortunately most web sites don't publish very accurate usage stats so the whole web traffic thing is grossly manipulated by many places.

567,312 - that's my guess

how could loading 1 page result in 100 hits?
I'm interested as I track hits to my works website with statcounter.

Hits just means a request to the server. On this page for example every single image loaded would count as a "hit", every query made to the server would count as a hit such as loading the info for your username etc. Now that most sites are dynamic and not static html without images a "hit" is not useful at all as it does not indicate anything more than how many queries your server received.

ok makes sense, how popular is the site then ?
[admin]#7
Well the best way probably is to look at it relatively (how big is it compared to other sites) - Alexa.com is a site run by Amazon that does relative comparison and is public info. It does estimates on ranking etc.

I see, thanks for the reply.

Statcounter counts 'page loads' is that different to 'hits'?

Yes, page loads should be a more reliable number of pages loaded. Depends on how your statcounter works though, I think many just make an estimate based on hits. Also, this stat is being skewed these days because of AJAX which allows people to do more functions without reloading a page...even on HUKD for example doing a reply is done in ajax so you don't need to load a new page, however if that functionality wasn't there you would have to load a new page and then a new page again when you post a reply. So you see page loads doesn't necessarily equal traffic either.

All these problems are why something like Alexa is actually quite useful (or hitwise if you can afford £10k/month ha) because it shows you visits comparitive to other sites. In a way the best ranking is a relative one for getting an idea of how busy a site is. The US has better free ranking sites like compare.com and hopefully they come to the UK also!!

£10K a month :w00t: for what????

OMG I'm speechless, ad.. but...no.. how can I get free money like this :giggle:
[admin]#11
No kidding. That's for the basic package, it keeps going up to like £30k/month! Then again it seems only 1200 companies are really paying for it hehe

Edit: Wait I think it might be that much a year... I can't remember now... it's one of those things that you just brush out of your mind :D

When I had my own website it reached 3M hits/months, so it is not that difficult to get high hits number. What really counts is a number of unique visitors/months. I guess HUKD unique visitors rating is in a region of 80K/month.

Yes, unique visitors is probably the stat you'd be the most interested in, although this can be grossly over exaggerated. Unique visitors are based on unique IPs visiting the site.

As we know, IP addresses are more often than not dynamic, and even worse is AOL where the IP address can change during a users session.
